What exactly is Joint-It Dynamic?
Joint-It Dynamic grout consists of a two-part resin system of a resin binder and hardener. When these two parts are combined, they create a chemical reaction resulting in a strong, flexible, and durable bond for the joints of paving slabs.
A 22kg tub of Joint-It Dynamic consists of:
- A resin binder for adhesion and strength: it’s designed to withstand various environmental factors, including temperature fluctuations
- A hardener to speed up the curing process: curing begins on mixing with the resin binder for rapid setting and hardening of the grout, ensuring that your patio is finished faster!
- High-quality sand: sourced from the best quality sand on the market, and colour-matched to ensure consistency and reliability (choose from Buff, Grey or Black).
What grout colours are available?
Joint-It Dynamic is available in three colours: Buff, Grey and Black.
What types of stone can Joint-It Dynamic be used with?
You can use Joint-It Dynamic to point a patio made from all types of natural stone and concrete pavers, such as:
- Porcelain
- Sandstone
- Limestone
- Slate
- Concrete slabs or paving
- Yorkstone
- Granite
- Louisiana Stone
- Oklahoma Stone
- Quartz
Note: when working with highly porous pavers, such as slate, black/blue limestone or granite, you will need to pre-seal them before installing the grout, such as with Nexus Pre-Grout Paving Sealer.
Does the grout discolour any types of natural stone paving?
Only if you fail to use enough water during installation. See the installation instructions below for how much water is required.
If not enough water has been used during installation, Joint-It Dynamic may leave a sticky residue, one that accentuates any natural discolouration already in the stone paving.
Reassuringly, this residue will fade and the stone will return to its original colour. As a rule of thumb, it should weather-off within a few weeks, though it can take longer depending on the type of stone used and how little water was applied during installation.
As some stone is more porous than others, different types of stone can have varying reaction. Rest assured, if there is a slight discolouration on your slabs it will disappear after a few weeks. But get in touch if you have any concerns.
What are the minimum joint sizes for Joint-It Dynamic?
Joint sizes must be a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep. There is no maximum joint size – the joints can be as big or wide as you like.
Smaller joint sizes? If you are working with porcelain and the joints are at least 5mm wide and 10mm deep, use Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout.
Is Joint-It Dynamic suitable for V joints?
Joint-It Dynamic is suitable for normal vertical patio joints. The grout is not suitable for use with V joints or beveled slabs as they don’t offer enough surface area to hold the grout in place.
How soon can I power-wash the paving after application?
While you can use a power washer on a patio pointed with Joint-It Dynamic, you should avoid doing so for a minimum of 30 days after installation. This is to allow time for the grout to fully cure.
Is the grout safe to be applied with pets around?
As with most grout formulas, Joint-It Dynamic may be harmful if ingested. Keep your pets away from the area while installing the grout, and for at least 24 hours afterwards.
How many tubs will I need?
One 22kg tub of Joint-It Dynamic covers an area of approximately 18m2 (depending on the joint and slab sizes).

Before use
What do I need to know before using Joint-It Dynamic?
Read the full instructions below before starting your project and laying the foundations. This is to ensure you have all the necessary tools, that the bedding layer is laid correctly and, when working with more porous paving stones, that they are pre-sealed before use.
The most important thing to remember when applying this grout is that the paving must be kept constantly wet with clean water while you’re working.
Ideally, install the grout with a buddy who keeps the paving constantly wet while you work. When working by yourself, work on small areas and keep wetting the paving as you joint.
Remember, keep the paving saturated as you brush in the product. It is not possible to add too much water, but there can be problems if you don’t add enough.
Is Joint-It Dynamic for permeable or non-permeable patios?
One of the main benefits of Joint-It Dynamic is its versatility. Due to the strength of the product’s glues, it can be used for either a permeable patio or a non-permeable project.
All you have to do is choose the correct type of bedding mortar for the type of drainage your project is designed for.
Example bedding mortars to use:
- For permeable patios: Perma-Bed bedding mortar
- For non-permeable patios: Eco-bed bedding mortar or Fuga-Pave Part A
Always ensure the bedding material is suitable for the intended traffic loading. See the advice on how to lay a patio and the pros and cons of permeable paving for more info.
Do I need to pre-seal the paving?
When working with highly porous stones, such as slate, black/blue limestone or honed black granite, the paving would benefit from being pre-sealed. This prevents any of the grout colour being drawn into the stone and creating a residue.
ProJoint Pre-Grout Paving Sealer from Nexus is an invisible pre-grout treatment that can be used for all types of natural stone and concrete paving.
Can I apply Joint-It Dynamic to an existing patio?
- Removing the stone or slab from the patio
- Cleaning or brushing away any loose sand and cement underneath
- Applying Joint-It Slurry Primer to the full underside of the slab
- Securely reinstalling the paving slab in its original place
How can prevent weeds growing through the joints?
As a high-strength epoxy resin grout, Joint-It Dynamic is weed resistant.
However, to prevent any weed growth you must still ensure that the formula is fully compacted into the joints. Joints must be a minimum of 5mm wide and 20mm deep.
How to apply Joint-It Dynamic
What tools or equipment do I need?
All you need to install Joint-It Dynamic is a:
- Paddle mixer
- Hose pipe and access to clean water
- Hard-bristle and soft-bristle brushes, or alternatively a Neoprene squeegee
- Finishing bar or trowel (optional)
The hard-bristle brush is used on wet paving to brush the formula into the joints, whereas the soft-bristle brush is to finish the job.
Professional installers find a Neoprene squeegee the easiest tool for jointing, and especially when working with smooth stones such as granite.
Brushes must be clean before starting the job. After the job, make sure you wash-off any particles of the grout to stop it hardening on the brushes.
How do I apply Joint-It Dynamic?
Here’s how to apply Joint-It Dynamic grout (note: also see the FAQs on pre-sealing or working with specific stones):
- Clean the paving and remove all dust and debris from the joints. Using a leaf blower is an easy way of doing so.
- Open a tub of Joint-It Dynamic and take out both the bottles.
- Once you’re ready to begin application, add both bottles of liquid – Part A and Part B – to the sand mixture inside the bucket.
- Mix thoroughly with a paddle mixer for 3 minutes until the mixture is completely combined.
- Add 2 litres of clean water to the bucket. Tip: use the bottles provided to measure and add this water. Doing so also helps to empty all the liquid contents from the bottles.
- Before applying the combined mixture, thoroughly soak the paving slabs with water. While working, all of the slabs must remain constantly wet, keep re-wetting it throughout application. You cannot overwater the area.
- Using a hard-bristle brush or squeegee, immediately apply Joint-It Dynamic into the joints. Add extra water as you work to ease the flow of the product into the joints and keep the paving surfaces wet.
- Check the paving is still completely saturated with water and that all joints are completely filled to the top.
- Wait 15-30 minutes in temperatures between 3-15°C. At higher temperatures, wait 10-15 minutes.
- Thoroughly sweep the excess product from the top of the paving using a soft-bristle brush or squeegee at a 45° angle to the joints. Ensure all excess sand particles have been removed from the surface of the paving. Check all joints are filled completely to the top – if not, top them up!
- For a smoother finish, strike off the joints using a finishing bar or trowel. If you are using a trowel or similar, ensure product is still filled to the top of the joints after use.
- Clean tools and brushes with copious amounts of soapy water after use.
The paving should not be walked on for approximately 24 hours after applying the grout. We recommend gently testing the joints to make sure they have set before walking on the paving. Extreme high or low weather conditions will affect how long Joint-It Dynamic takes to fully harden and set.
What happens if I use too much water with Joint-It Dynamic?
It is not possible for you to add too much water to the paving when applying Joint-It Dynamic as the formula is water permeable.
Always err on the side of caution and ensure the area is fully saturated throughout application.
You must keep the paving wet at all times when brushing the formula into the joints. It’s best to have a buddy on hand who’s in charge of the hose while you do the brushing.
If the weather is warm during application you will need to use even more water to stop the formula from drying out too quickly.
With porcelain pavers, do I need to anything differently?
As a smoother stone, porcelain pavers do not absorb water to the same degree as other natural stone products.
When working with porcelain with Joint-It Dynamic, you must keep both the top of the paving and the formula itself saturated with clean water. This will help the grout to flow into the joints more easily.
Also, when working with smooth stones like porcelain, using a Neoprene squeegee rather than a brush will make the job so much easier.
With slate or granite, do I need to do anything differently?
Paving slabs made from slate or granite may absorb water at different rates – this even applies to individual slabs from the same batch.
Before applying Joint-It Dynamic when working with either granite or slate:
- Soak the pavers first and then pause briefly, allowing time for the stones to absorb the water.
- Check the stones to see if any are still dry – if so, repeat the soaking process to ensure all parts of the stones are saturated.
If you do notice small dots on your paving slabs, it’s likely that part of that slab is of a harder density and not enough water was used during application. The remaining residue should weather-off over the next 3–6 months.
Important note: just like black/blue limestone, slate and granite stones should also be pre-sealed before applying Joint-It Dynamic. See the advice on pre-sealing above.
How soon can I walk on the paving after application?
As a rule of thumb, you should not walk on the paving for at least 24 hours after applying Joint-It Dynamic. The grout must have fully hardened before walking on the area.
Weather conditions can change the grout’s setting time. At temperatures around 20ºC the grout will take approximately 24 hours to set. At lower temperatures, it will take longer.
Before walking on the patio, gently test the joints to ensure they have set.
