About the product

UltraScape Flowpoint Premium Smooth Paving Grout — Stone Grey | 25KG Bag

The Smooth-Finish Flowpoint in a Pure, Versatile Stone Grey — Joints from Just 3mm

Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey is one of the best rapid-set slurry grouts on the market for contractors and homeowners who need a finer aggregate finish from joints as narrow as 3mm. It combines the proven Flowpoint performance with a pure, neutral grey that works beautifully alongside grey porcelain, sandstone, limestone and most natural stone paving. It's a product our customers consistently come back to tell us they're delighted with: fast to apply, strong, weed-resistant joints that last up to 40 years.

Rapid-setting, BS 7533 compliant, joints from 3–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep, supplied in 25kg bags — Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey is a professional-strength paving grout equally at home on a domestic patio or a large-scale commercial landscaping project.

We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. What makes Stone Grey special is that it's a genuinely pure grey — unlike many grouts on the market that mix black, beige and limestone to approximate a grey, Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey has been developed to give the purest grey possible. That matters a great deal when you're matching it to contemporary grey porcelain or cool-toned natural stone.

If you're jointing grey porcelain, sandstone, limestone, Indian Stone or most natural stone paving with joints from 3mm — this is the product we'd confidently recommend. For darker limestones such as black limestone, please use a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent oxidisation, or give us a call and we'll advise.

What Contractors Say

GARETH WILSON — Hard Landscaping Expert & RHS Award Winner
"Keep your eye on the firmness of the joint — just with a little thumb test. Once firm, then begin washing off. Too many contractors start washing off when the product starts to dry on the slabs. You need to keep the slabs damp with a mist of water so it doesn't go off on them too soon."

JORDAN CLAYTON — Owner of Next Level Landscapes Ltd.
"Flowpoint is our go-to product when it comes to jointing all our paving. I love how it gives me confidence that the products will stand the test of time, allowing homeowners to enjoy their garden for years to come."

Common Flowpoint Myths — Busted

Myth The Truth
Flowpoint is new and unproven Developed around 25 years ago, used on thousands of major projects worldwide — including in New Zealand, Norway, America and Dubai.
It requires specialist equipment Not at all. A paddle mixer and a long-handled neoprene squeegee are all you need beyond standard paving tools.
Flowpoint sticks to pavers It doesn't set instantly. Keep the area damp and plan around the weather — particularly in hot conditions.
It causes cracking and low spots This happens when it's washed off too early. Use the thumb test — if the joint is still bleeding, wait.
It works with every paving material Most, yes — but not black limestone without a pre-sealer, as it can oxidise and cause staining.
It causes efflorescence Applied correctly, it shouldn't. Problems usually come from an undried bed, too much water in the mix, or early pressure-washing.
Paving must be kept completely wet Damp, not saturated. Too much water can dilute the mix and cause joint failure.
Slabs must sit for 28 days before grouting The key is that the bedding mortar is properly cured with no visible dampness. Always follow the manufacturer's guidance.

Use Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey with:

  • Grey or neutral porcelain (joints from just 3mm)
  • Sandstone & Indian Stone
  • Limestone (pale varieties)
  • Yorkstone & Cotswold Stone
  • Granite setts (approx. 1 bag per 1.5m²)
  • Clay & concrete slabs

Not recommended for some darker limestones such as black limestone without a pre-grout sealer. Use Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent staining and oxidisation, or call us on 0330 122 1025 for advice.

Frequently Asked Questions about UltraScape Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey

I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a small team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals who share the same passion for getting it right. These are the questions we get asked every single day.

What's the difference between Flowpoint Premium Smooth and Flowpoint Premium Standard?

The Smooth grade has a finer aggregate, which means it can fill joints from just 3mm rather than 5mm. If your joints are wider than 5mm, Standard is fine. If you're working with tight joints — particularly porcelain — Smooth is the one to go for. Performance, set times and water ratio are otherwise identical.

What makes Stone Grey different from other grey grouts?

Flowpoint Premium Smooth Stone Grey is a genuinely pure grey — many grouts marketed as grey are actually a blend of black, beige and limestone pigments. This has been specifically developed to give the cleanest grey possible, which makes a real difference on contemporary grey porcelain or cool-toned stone where colour accuracy matters.

Why choose Stone Grey over Limestone or Yorkstone?

Stone Grey is the most versatile Smooth colour — a pure, neutral mid-tone that works with almost any paving without looking too dark or too warm. Particularly good with grey porcelain, sandstone, limestone and Indian Stone. If your paving has warmer or cream tones, Limestone or Yorkstone might be a better fit. Not sure? Send us a photo and we'll advise.

Can I use it with black limestone?

With care — use a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent oxidisation. If you'd like advice on your specific stone, give us a call.

How long does it last?

Applied correctly, up to 40 years without the need to re-grout.

What's the set time?

30 minutes at 20°C, walkable after 1 hour. Warmer temperatures accelerate this; cooler ones slow it down. Use the thumb test — once the joint is firm and leaves only a slight thumbprint, start washing off.

Is it permeable?

No — a non-permeable, cementitious joint. Must be laid on a solid, non-permeable bed with adequate drainage fall.

Can I use it in the rain?

Yes — light rain is fine. A damp day can actually give you a bit more working time. Just make sure the joints aren't full of rainwater before you start.

Do I need to pre-seal?

Using a pre-sealer like Tile Rite Patio Prep: don't pre-soak — the sealer acts as the barrier. Without a sealer: thoroughly wet the paving, then remove all standing water before you start.

What's the shelf life?

8 months from the date of manufacture (printed on the bag), stored sealed in a cool, dry, frost-free area.

How much do I need?

Use the Flowpoint Calculator on this page for an accurate estimate. As a guide, one 25kg bag covers approximately 12–20m² for natural stone mixed packs, and 1.5–2m² for granite setts.

How to Mix & Apply Flowpoint Premium Smooth Paving Grout

Important — drainage: Make sure you have somewhere to push excess slurry grout, such as an area of lifted grass or a waste bucket. Never push excess Flowpoint into drains — it sets rapidly and will cause a permanent blockage.

Step 1 — Preparation

Without a temporary pre-sealer (standard method):

  1. Ensure joints are clean and free from debris, dust and loose material.
  2. Thoroughly pre-soak the paving surface and joints with water — the paving must be properly wet before you begin.
  3. Then remove all standing or ponded water from the surface and joints — a leaf blower is ideal. The paving should be damp, not waterlogged.
  4. Keep the surface moist throughout application by misting with a soft spray of water as you work.

With a temporary pre-grout sealer (e.g. Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout):

  1. Apply the temporary sealer in advance and allow it to dry as per the product instructions.
  2. Do not pre-soak the paving with water. The sealer acts as the protective barrier — water is not required until clean-down.
  3. Remove any standing water from the joints using a leaf blower before grouting begins.
  4. Always carry out a small trial area first to ensure compatibility with your stone type.

Step 2 — Mixing

  1. Add 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag into a clean bucket or mixing vessel.
  2. Gradually add the Flowpoint Premium Smooth powder to the water and mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth and lump-free. Use a slow-speed drill and paddle mixer for best results.
  3. Only mix what you can apply in approximately 4 minutes — do not store liquid mortar.
  4. Never remix or add extra water once mixed.

Step 3 — Application

  1. Pour the mixed grout directly onto the paving surface.
  2. Using a neoprene squeegee & 3 section pole, force the mortar into the joints. Work methodically to ensure all joints are fully filled. Top up any joints where mortar has slumped after initial placement.
  3. Use the squeegee to remove as much excess mortar as possible from the surface as you go.
  4. If not using a temporary pre-sealer, keep the surface constantly moist using a soft water spray. If using a pre-sealer, water is not required until clean-down.
  5. Use the thumb test: once the joint is firm and leaves only a slight thumbprint, begin washing off.
  6. Clean the paving surface thoroughly using a brush and copious clean water. No mortar must remain on the surface.
  7. Wash all tools frequently during application.

Step 4 — Trafficking

  • Foot traffic: after 1 hour (at 20°C)
  • Vehicular traffic: after 4 hours (at 20°C)
  • Cool temperatures retard set; warm temperatures accelerate it. Do not apply below 3°C or in direct sunlight.

Important Precautions

  • Wear appropriate PPE — avoid skin and eye contact. Wet cement can cause serious burns.
  • Never remix or add extra water once the mix has been prepared.
  • Never push excess Flowpoint into drains — it will set and cause a permanent blockage.
  • Do not apply below 3°C or if frost is expected within 24 hours.
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight.
  • Store in a cool, dry, frost-free area. Shelf life: 8 months from date of manufacture (printed on the bag).
Flowpoint Premium Paving Grout from Ultrascape is a rapid-set, cement-based grout engineered for natural stone, porcelain slabs, concrete flags, and granite setts. Its highly flowable consistency ensures joints are completely filled, delivering a strong, durable finish with a lifespan of 30–40 years. Fully BS 7533 compliant, Flowpoint is suitable for both domestic and commercial paving projects. It is available in specialist grades—Standard, Smooth, and Porcelpoint—tailored to different joint widths, depths, and surface finishes. For optimal results, pre-seal paving slabs with a temporary pre-grout sealer to reduce the risk of staining and efflorescence. Mix Flowpoint Premium to a smooth, pourable consistency and apply while surfaces are damp using a squeegee. Once the grout is touch-dry (typically 15–30 minutes), clean the surface using a Berta Sponge Machine or Pedalo. Flowpoint accommodates joint widths from 2–50 mm and depths of 20–200 mm, providing a long-lasting, stain-resistant, professional finish ideal for patios, driveways, and commercial paving schemes.
