About the product

UltraScape Flowpoint Charcoal | 28 x 25kg Bags

Rapid-Set Flowable Slurry Grout for Natural Stone & Granite Setts — 28 Bags

Flowpoint Charcoal is a rapid-set, flowable slurry grout — the professional’s choice for jointing natural stone and granite setts on mid-sized paving projects. Twenty-eight bags is the practical bulk quantity for contractors and confident self-builders who need more than a few bags but don’t require a full pallet — enough to complete a substantial driveway, courtyard or patio in a single session, in the charcoal tone that suits the scheme.

BS 7533 compliant, sets in 15 minutes at 20°C, joints from 5–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep, open to vehicles in 4 hours, supplied in 25kg showerproof bags — Flowpoint Charcoal delivers the same professional-strength performance as Natural Grey, in a darker tone.

We’re a small, family-run business — I’m Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. When someone orders 28 bags of charcoal, they know their project. We’d back this product for whatever they’re working on.

Flowpoint Standard Charcoal works confidently across granite setts, sandstone, limestone, porcelain, Indian Stone, Yorkstone, clay pavers and concrete flags. If you’re working with darker limestones, use a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep before grouting. Unsure? Read our black limestone guide or give us a call.

UltraScape Flowpoint Charcoal is a fast-curing, flowable, cement-based paving grout that produces a deep-toned fluid slurry when mixed with water on site. Poured across the paving surface and worked into joints with a neoprene squeegee, it sets to leave strong, durable, weed-resistant joints. Dramatically faster than hand-pointing, with a consistent charcoal finish that holds its tone over time.

What Do Industry Experts Say About Flowpoint?

Flowpoint Standard has been the backbone of the Flowpoint range for over 30 years. We asked Gareth Wilson, one of the UK’s most respected hard landscaping experts, for his view.

Gareth has 30 years in the landscaping trade, 30 Royal Horticultural Show (RHS) awards for show garden construction, and now works as an expert witness in hard landscaping:

GARETH WILSON — Hard Landscaping Expert & RHS Award Winner
“Some landscapers are stuck in their ways and they don’t like change. Their attitude is, ‘I’ve been doing this for 20 years… Why should I change now?’ And some are quite rightly scared when they consider pouring Flowpoint onto their slabs — at the end of the day, you are pouring a cementitious slurry directly onto the pavers. It goes against everything that you’ve been taught. But Flowpoint has been developed so it doesn’t stick to the paving.

“In addition to its British Standard rating and the strength of the product, it’s also the speed at which you can install it. If you’re going to be on your hands and knees with a trowel and a three-to-one mortar mix, it will take you about five times as long to install, compared with using Flowpoint. Flowpoint is just so easy and quick to install that it makes you money. It’s a well-priced product and, in my view, a landscaper’s friend. Ultimately, it means less time on the job and more profit in your pocket.”

Common Flowpoint Myths — Busted

Myth The Truth
Myth #1: Flowpoint is a new product Over 25 years in use, specified on thousands of projects worldwide — from New Zealand to Norway, America to Dubai.
Myth #2: You need specialist equipment A paddle mixer and a long-handled neoprene squeegee. Everything else you likely already have.
Myth #3: It’s only for experienced contractors Straightforward once you’ve seen it done. Do a trial area first.
Myth #4: Flowpoint sticks permanently to pavers It doesn’t set instantly — keep the surface damp and time your work around the weather.
Myth #5: It causes cracking and low spots Cracking happens when grout is cleaned off too early. Use the thumb test — if the joint is still soft, wait.
Myth #6: It works with every stone type Works with most paving materials. Exception: black limestone without a temporary pre-sealer.
Myth #7: Flowpoint causes efflorescence Not a product fault — caused by insufficient bed drying time, excess water in the mix, or pressure-washing too early.
Myth #8: The paving must be kept soaking wet Damp, not saturated. Remove standing water before grouting, mist throughout.
Myth #9: Slabs must cure for 28 days first The key is a solid, set, dry bed — not a fixed number of days.

Frequently Asked Questions — UltraScape Flowpoint Charcoal (28 Bags)

I’m Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts. With over 25 years in the construction industry — including time with Tarmac and Instarmac — and a team around me who live and breathe paving, the answers below come from real questions we’re asked every day.

1. Is Flowpoint Charcoal the same as Flowpoint Natural Grey?

Same product, different pigment. The formulation, performance, application and specifications are identical — the only difference is the colour. Charcoal works well wherever a darker joint is called for: against pale porcelain, light sandstone, buff concrete or granite setts where contrast adds definition.

2. What is UltraScape Flowpoint?

UltraScape Flowpoint is a rapid-setting, flowable cement-based grout for jointing external paving. Pre-mixed and supplied in 25kg showerproof bags, it requires only the addition of water on site. It conforms to BS 7533, sets in 15 minutes at 20°C and lasts up to 40 years.

3. How quickly does Flowpoint set?

Initial set in 15 minutes at 20°C. Foot traffic after 1 hour, vehicular traffic after 4 hours. Always use the thumb test before cleaning down — if the joint still feels soft, wait longer.

4. Can Flowpoint be used on natural stone?

Yes — widely used on sandstone, limestone, Indian Stone, Yorkstone and granite setts. Always trial your specific stone first. For darker limestones such as black limestone, apply Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent oxidisation.

5. How do you apply Flowpoint?

Pre-soak the paving and remove all ponded water. Add 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag and mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth. Pour onto the paving and work into joints with a neoprene squeegee, keeping the surface misted. Clean down once initial set is reached.

6. How much water per bag?

Exactly 4.25 litres. Mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth and pourable. Only prepare what you can place in approximately 4 minutes.

7. Can Flowpoint be used in the rain?

Yes — light rain is fine and can extend your working window. Keep joints clear of ponded water. Avoid heavy rain or frost within 24 hours of application.

8. Is Flowpoint permeable?

No — non-permeable cementitious grout. Must be used on a solid, non-permeable bed. Need a permeable alternative? Contact us.

9. Do I need to pre-seal before using Flowpoint?

With a temporary pre-sealer (such as Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout): do not pre-soak.
Without a sealer: wet the paving thoroughly, then remove all standing water.

10. What is the shelf life?

8 months from the date of manufacture, printed on the white strip on the side of each bag. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free environment, clear of the ground.

Please note: The videos below show Flowpoint Fine being applied. The mixing and application principles are identical for Flowpoint Standard — Flowpoint Fine and Porcelpoint require 3.4 litres per 20kg bucket; Flowpoint Standard, Smooth, ECO and Premium require 4.25 litres per 25kg bag.

How do you mix & apply Flowpoint grout?

  1. Ensure that your paving slabs & joints are free from debris and any ponded water
  2. Pre-soak the surface of the slabs & joints with water to ensure they are damp, but not drowned in water
  3. Pour a bag of Flowpoint into a bucket and add 4.25 litres of water
  4. Mix for 3–5 minutes until you have a smooth consistency, free of lumps
  5. Ensure the area is still damp, then apply the mixture immediately by carefully pushing the Flowpoint into the joints using a neoprene squeegee. Please note: Flowpoint can set within as little as 15 minutes (at temperatures of 20°C) so monitor the setting carefully
  6. Move the Flowpoint grout across the paving surface to top-up joints where the mortar may have sunk
  7. Use a neoprene squeegee to remove as much of the paving grout from the surface of the slabs — remembering to keep the surfaces constantly damp to prevent the grout from hardening
  8. Use a brush and lots of water — or alternatively a pressure washer or sponge machine — to remove any grout that has hardened on the paving surfaces
  9. Once the mortar is dry (after approx. 30 minutes), clean the surface of paving slabs thoroughly to remove any spots of mortar and prevent them from staining
  10. Your newly grouted patio will be ready to walk on after one hour, and can take vehicles after four hours
Flowpoint paving grout from Ultrascape is a rapid-set, cement-based grout for natural stone, porcelain slabs, concrete flags, and granite setts. Its flowable consistency fills joints completely, creating a strong, durable finish lasting 30–40 years. BS 7533 compliant, Flowpoint is suitable for domestic and commercial paving and comes in specialist grades—Standard, Smooth, Fine, Eco, Premium, Premium Smooth, and Porcelpoint—designed for different joint widths, depths, and finishes. For best results, pre-seal slabs with a temporary pre-grout sealer to prevent staining and efflorescence. Mix to a smooth, pourable consistency, apply while surfaces are damp using a squeegee, and clean once touch-dry (15–30 minutes) with a Berta Sponge Machine or Pedalo. Flowpoint supports joint widths from 2–50 mm and depths of 20–200 mm, providing a durable, stain-resistant, professional finish for patios, driveways, and commercial paving.
