How many bags of Flowpoint Premium Smooth Paving Grout do I need?
The number of bags of Flowpoint Premium Smooth Yorkstone needed to joint between paving slabs, tiles or setts depends on the area in square metres that you have to pave, the width and length of your slabs, and the width and depth of your joints. Under the image above, you will find a handy calculator to help you work this out. But, as a general rule of thumb, for larger format porcelain tiles say 600mm x 900mm; with a joint width of 5mm and depth of 20mm you'll use one bag of Flowpoint per 30m2, for a mixed pack of sandstone slabs you'll use one bag on average for every 20m2, and for granite setts that are much smaller in area and have a need for a deeper joint you'll use on average one bag per 1.5-2m2.
For an accurate calculation, using your exact slab dimensions and patio area, please refer to our calculator above.

How to Mix & Apply Flowpoint Premium Smooth Paving Grout
- Ensure paving slabs and joints are clean, free from debris, and without standing water.
- Pre-soak slabs and joints so they are damp (not flooded). Remove excess water using a leaf blower if needed.
- Pour one full bag into a bucket with 4.25 litres of clean water.
- Mix thoroughly for 3–5 minutes until smooth and lump-free (approx. 3 mins in warm weather, approx. 5 mins in cold).
-
Keep the area lightly damp and apply immediately using a neoprene squeegee, pushing grout firmly into joints.
Note: Initial set can occur in as little as 15 minutes at 20°C - monitor closely. Grout should be firm before cleaning. Do not leave for extended periods. - Top up joints as needed by moving excess grout across the surface.
- Use a neoprene squeegee to remove excess grout, keeping the surface lightly misted to prevent premature drying.
- Carry out the initial clean after 20–30 minutes (faster in warm weather, slower in cold) using a washboy, brush and water, or a pressure washer/sponge machine.
- Once joints are set (approx. 30 minutes), complete a final clean to remove grout residue and prevent staining.
- Ready for light foot traffic after 1 hour and vehicular traffic after 4 hours.
