What is UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 10mm?

Instant Road Repair 10mm is a HAPAS Approved permanent cold-lay surfacing asphalt concrete for first-time permanent reinstatements in Type 3 and 4 roads and vehicle-trafficked surfaces including drives, minor roads and car parks. It is manufactured with fully graded, high PSV (65) interlocking aggregate and a specially formulated bitumen containing polymers and flexibilisers — giving it an easy-work, easy-compact formula that performs in all weather conditions. It is supplied ready to apply directly from the bag — no mixing or heating required.

When used with UltraCrete SCJ Seal and Tack Spray, the repair is permanent and immediately open to motor vehicle traffic once compacted. It also forms part of the UltraCrete HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement System, and is approved for use on the London Underground and Overground.

10mm vs 6mm — Which Grade Do I Need?

The key difference between IRR 10mm and IRR 6mm is the aggregate size, intended application and minimum repair depth — not simply that one is “stronger”. Both grades are instantly trafficable once compacted.

Bag vs Tub — Which Format Should I Choose?

Both formats contain 25kg of the same material. Once opened, all material should be used. The choice is about how you work on site.

Choose a bag for larger repairs or bulk purchases where you’ll use the full unit, and for better pallet efficiency (56 bags vs 52 tubs).

Choose a tub if you’re a contractor who needs a stackable, rigid container that’s easy to move around site between jobs.

Is Instant Road Repair 10mm a permanent repair?

Yes. When applied correctly — including preparation and the use of UltraCrete SCJ to seal edges and substrate — IRR 10mm provides a first-time permanent reinstatement. HAPAS approved since 2002 for Type 3 and 4 roads.

What surfaces is IRR 10mm designed for?

Type 3 and 4 roads and vehicle-trafficked surfaces including drives, minor roads and car parks. For footways, footpaths and cycle tracks, IRR 6mm is the correct specification.

Can I use IRR 10mm on a driveway?

Does IRR 10mm need to be mixed or heated?

Do I need to compact IRR 10mm?

Yes — correct compaction is essential. Compact using suitable equipment in accordance with Appendix 8 of the SROH 2010. For repairs over 45mm deep, apply and compact in layers.

Can I use IRR 10mm in the rain?

IRR 10mm is compaction-cured and can be used in light rain. If heavy or persistent rain is forecast, UltraCrete Tough Patch is the better product — it is water-cured and specifically designed for wet conditions.

How much area does a 25kg bag cover?

Approximately 1m² at 12–15mm compacted depth. Calculate the volume of the repair (length × width × depth) to determine how many bags are required.

What is the difference between the 10mm and 6mm grade?

10mm is for Type 3 and 4 roads (minimum 30mm depth). 6mm is for footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways (minimum 15mm). If your repair is shallower than 30mm, 6mm is the correct specification.

Should I choose a bag or a tub?

Why is my IRR firm in the bag?

Normal — especially for bags at the bottom of a pallet. Apply light pressure to the edge of the bag. In cold weather, store somewhere warm overnight before use.

6 months from date of manufacture in sealed conditions. Once opened, use all material.
