Why use IRR 6mm with SCJ?

SCJ is applied to the vertical edges of the excavation and the substrate before the IRR is placed. It forms the bituminous seal and tack coat that helps prevent water ingress and creates a proper bond between the repair and the surrounding surface. Re-apply it to the edges before each additional layer, then use it to seal the final joint after compaction.

About UltraCrete IRR 6mm

UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 6mm is a permanent cold-lay asphalt concrete made with fully graded, high-PSV 65 interlocking aggregate and specially formulated bitumen containing polymers and flexibilisers. It is designed for permanent repairs in footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways, with a depth range of 15–100mm.

About UltraCrete SCJ Cold Joint Bitumen Spray

SCJ is a spray-applied bituminous seal and tack coat for the edges and substrate of a repair. It is used before placing IRR, between layers where a deeper reinstatement is required, and around the final joint after compaction. The aerosol format makes application straightforward, with no brush or mixing required.

Which IRR grade do I need?

Can IRR 6mm be used in the rain?

IRR 6mm can be used in wet conditions when it is placed and compacted correctly. For heavy or persistent rain, UltraCrete Tough Patch Rapid may be the better choice because it is designed for water-curing and higher skid resistance.

How quickly can the area be opened?

Once the IRR has been correctly compacted, it is instantly trafficable, subject to the requirements of the site.

What is the shelf life?

IRR 6mm has a shelf life of 6 months from the date of manufacture in sealed tubs. Once opened, use all the material. Store SCJ cans in a cool, well-ventilated place and check the can for its date information.

Can utilities contractors use this bundle?

Yes, the IRR 6mm and SCJ combination can be used for suitable footway, footpath, cycle-track and other reinstatement work following utility repairs, duct installation or other openings. Always check the required road category, depth and reinstatement specification before choosing the grade.

Can I use this for a driveway or car-park repair?

What is the difference between the tub and the bag?

Both contain 25KG of the same IRR 6mm material and once opened, all material should be used. The tub is preferred by contractors who need a stackable, rigid container that is easy to move around site and between jobs. The bag gives better pallet efficiency, with 56 bags compared with 52 tubs per pallet, and suits larger single repairs or bulk purchasing.

Can I reseal the tub and use it later?

The tub is a practical rigid format for handling and storage, but once opened all material should be used. Plan to complete the repair using the full contents of the tub.

Is Instant Road Repair 6mm a permanent repair?

Yes. When applied correctly, including the use of UltraCrete SCJ to seal the edges and substrate, IRR 6mm provides a first-time permanent reinstatement. It has been HAPAS approved since 2002.

Can I use IRR 6mm on a car park or driveway?

Yes. IRR 6mm is suitable for car parks and driveways as well as footways, footpaths and cycle tracks. For high-stress areas subject to turning or heavy braking, UltraCrete Tough Patch offers greater skid resistance.

What is the difference between 6mm and 10mm?

6mm is for footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways, with a minimum depth of 15mm. 10mm is for Type 3 and 4 roads, with a minimum depth of 30mm. If your repair is shallower than 30mm, 6mm is the correct specification.

Why is my IRR firm in the tub?

Apply light pressure to the material in the tub to restore normal consistency. In cold weather, store it somewhere warm overnight before use.

How do I clean the SCJ nozzle after use?
