About Richard and his role
Rich is the Sales & Operations Manager at The Paving Experts. “I’m responsible for the day to day operations of the business to help drive sales and revenue through customer interaction,” he explains. “I also work closely with the rest of the team to support them in any way I can.”
He adds that his role involves ensuring quality standards are met at every turn. “I ensure the smooth running of the office, manage stock control and oversee activities within the warehouse – including receiving, handling, storing, picking, packing and dispatch.
You may come across Rich taking the odd order, providing ad-hoc technical support or even dropping off local orders within 30 miles of The Paving Experts’ warehouse and base in Tamworth.
Career pathway
After leaving school, Rich took up an apprenticeship in vehicle mechanics. After 12 months, he realised it wasn’t for him and moved into retail while deciding on his next steps. This is where Rich fell into customer service. He says the next eight years saw him progressing into management and gaining more people skills along the way.
Rich’s next move took him into the construction industry and more specifically tool hire.
“I spent 15 years managing depots and regional operations for some of the industry’s largest companies, such as Hire Force,” he shares. Rich then joined The Paving Experts towards the end of 2021.
When asked why he chose The Paving Experts, he says, “I felt I wanted to work somewhere with the freedom and support that allows everyone to be a part of the decision making and day to day running of the company.
“That’s what makes The Paving Experts what it is. It’s also great to work for a company that really cares.”
Qualifications and professional development
In the early stages of his career, Rich earned NVQs in light vehicle mechanics followed by customer services. In subsequent years he gained Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) accreditations and people management skills.
Over the 20 years of Rich’s career he has developed strong operational skills and thrives on problem solving while giving the best possible service to customers.
“I really believe there is a solution to everything,” he says. “My job is to help find the best possible solution for everyone.”
