Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax for Porcelain Epoxy Grout is designed to be used with Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Paving & Tiling Grout in Grey, Raven or Tan. Applied correctly to the top of the paving beside the joint, it helps excess epoxy grout peel away more cleanly when the grout has set.
We’re a small, family-run business — I’m Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. With epoxy grout, the preparation matters. The wax is there to make the finishing stage easier, but it needs to be applied lightly and kept out of the joint so the grout can bond properly.
Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax for Porcelain Epoxy Grout is a preparation product, not a grout, adhesive or general paving cleaner.
It acts as a temporary barrier between the epoxy grout and the paving surface. Supplied in a tub with an application sponge, it covers approximately 40–50m² depending on how much wax is applied. The wax weathers away over a number of weeks, so there is no need to chemically remove it after grouting.
Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout can only be used where a finishing scraper can be pulled smoothly across the top of the paving to remove excess grout. It is not suitable for rough, bevelled or hand-cut paving edges.

How to apply Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax for Porcelain Epoxy Grout
- Make sure the paving is securely laid on a full-contact, solid base, with clean, dry surfaces and joints between 1–5mm wide and at least 10mm deep.
- Use the supplied sponge to apply the wax lightly and with minimal pressure. Apply a thin film along the top of the paving on either side of the joint.
- Take care not to let the wax seep into the joint or coat the sides of the paving inside the joint. Wax in the joint can prevent the epoxy grout bonding properly over time.
- Apply the wax no more than 10–15 minutes before you begin grouting.
- Apply the Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout, finish the joints and wait until the excess grout is hard enough to scrape cleanly.
- Peel or scrape away the excess grout. The wax can remain on the paving and will weather away over a number of weeks.
Do not press too hard with the sponge, as heavy pressure can cause it to disintegrate. If the supplied sponge wears out before the tub is finished, a sponge of a similar grade can be used.
Follow the epoxy grout instructions for temperature and weather restrictions. The grout system should not be applied in rain or when rain is forecast.

How do I apply Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax?
Use the supplied sponge to apply the wax lightly, with minimal pressure, along the top of the paving on either side of the joint. Apply only a thin film and take care not to let wax enter the joint.
What happens if Anti-Bonding Wax gets into the joint?
Wax in the joint or on the sides of the paving can prevent Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout from bonding properly over time. Apply the wax sparingly along the top edge beside the joint rather than down inside it.
How much pressure should I use with the sponge?
Use light pressure. Pressing too hard can cause the supplied sponge to disintegrate. If it wears out, a similar-grade sponge can be used.
How long before grouting should I apply the wax?
Apply the wax no more than 10–15 minutes before you begin applying the Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout.
How much area does one tub cover?
One tub covers approximately 40–50m². Actual coverage varies depending on how much wax is applied over the joints.
Does the wax need to be removed after grouting?
No. Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax weathers away over a number of weeks, so there is no need to wash it off or use a chemical remover.
Which Joint-It epoxy grout colours can I use it with?
It is designed for use with the Grey, Raven and Tan Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout colours.
Can I use the system on rough or hand-cut paving edges?
No. Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout requires a surface where the finishing scraper can be pulled smoothly across the paving. It is not suitable for rough, bevelled or hand-cut edges.
What is the shelf life?
Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax has an indefinite shelf life when stored in a cool environment.
What else do I need to apply the epoxy grout system?
You will need the Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout cartridge and nozzle, Anti-Bonding Wax and sponge, a 400ml twin-tube cartridge gun dispenser, and suitable finishing and scraping tools.

Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout information
Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout is a two-part epoxy grout for outdoor porcelain slabs and smooth stone paving with joints from 1–5mm wide and at least 10mm deep. It is available in Grey, Raven and Tan, and is applied through a twin-tube cartridge gun dispenser.
Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout application process
- Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout is suitable for porcelain and smooth tiles and slabs, only where a finishing scraper can be pulled easily across the surface.
- Do not use the grout in temperatures below 5°C or above 25°C.
- Ensure the joints are 1–5mm wide and at least 10mm deep.
- Make sure the tiles or slabs are securely laid on a full-contact, solid base with no movement.
- Ensure the surfaces are dry, clean and free from dirt and debris.
- Apply Anti-Bonding Wax lightly along the top of the paving either side of the joint, taking care not to let it enter the joint.
- Apply the epoxy grout with the application gun, finish the joints and scrape off excess once hard enough.

How to use Joint-It Anti-Bonding Wax
- Make sure the paving is clean, dry and securely laid, with joints between 1–5mm wide and at least 10mm deep.
- Using the supplied sponge, apply the wax lightly with minimal pressure along the top of the paving on either side of the joint.
- Do not let wax seep into the joint or coat the sides of the paving inside the joint, as this can affect epoxy grout bonding over time.
- Apply the wax no more than 10–15 minutes before grouting.
- Apply and finish the Joint-It Porcelain Epoxy Grout, then scrape away excess once it is hard enough to remove cleanly.
- Leave the wax in place; it will weather away over a number of weeks.
Do not press too hard, as the sponge may disintegrate. If needed, use a similar-grade replacement sponge. Follow the epoxy grout instructions for temperature and weather restrictions.
