Why Choose the Tub Over the Bag?

The tub and bag contain exactly the same IRR 6mm material — the difference is entirely about how you work on site. Once opened, all material should be used.

Choose the tub if you’re a contractor moving between jobs on a major site, need a format that stacks and handles easily, or prefer a rigid container at the point of repair.

Choose the bag if you’re completing larger repairs or buying in bulk — bags give better pallet efficiency (56 vs 52 tubs).

What is UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 6mm?

Instant Road Repair 6mm is a HAPAS Approved permanent cold-lay surfacing asphalt concrete for first-time permanent reinstatements in footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways. It is manufactured with fully graded, high PSV (65) interlocking aggregate and a specially formulated bitumen containing polymers and flexibilisers — giving it an easy-work, easy-compact formula that performs in all weather conditions, including light rain.

When used with UltraCrete SCJ Seal and Tack Spray, the repair is permanent and immediately open to pedestrian and cycle traffic once compacted. It also forms part of the UltraCrete HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement System, and is approved for use on the London Underground and Overground.

6mm vs 10mm — Which Grade Do I Need?

If the repair is shallower than 30mm, IRR 6mm is the correct specification. For Type 3 or 4 roads, use IRR 10mm. If you’re unsure, call us on 0330 122 1025.

What is the difference between the tub and the bag?

Both contain 25kg of the same IRR 6mm material and once opened, all material should be used. The tub is preferred by contractors who need a stackable, rigid container that’s easy to move around site and between jobs. The bag gives better pallet efficiency (56 vs 52 tubs per pallet) and suits larger single repairs or bulk purchasing.

Can I reseal the tub and use it later?

No — once opened, all material should be used. IRR begins to cure on contact with air, so the tub format is about site handling convenience, not partial use. Plan to complete the repair using the full contents of the tub.

Is Instant Road Repair 6mm a permanent repair?

Yes. When applied correctly — including use of UltraCrete SCJ to seal edges and substrate — IRR 6mm provides a first-time permanent reinstatement. HAPAS approved since 2002.

Can I use IRR 6mm on a car park or driveway?

Yes — IRR 6mm is suitable for car parks and driveways as well as footways, footpaths and cycle tracks. For high-stress areas subject to turning or heavy braking, UltraCrete Tough Patch offers greater skid resistance.

How quickly can the area be opened to traffic?

Instantly — once compacted, immediately trafficable. No curing wait required.

Can I use IRR 6mm in the rain?

IRR 6mm is compaction-cured and can be used in light rain. However, if heavy or persistent rain is forecast, UltraCrete Tough Patch is the better product — it is water-cured rather than compaction-cured, and is specifically designed to be applied in wet conditions.

What is the difference between 6mm and 10mm?

6mm is for footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways (min depth 15mm). 10mm is for Type 3 and 4 roads (min depth 30mm). If your repair is shallower than 30mm, 6mm is the correct specification.

Do I need to use SCJ?

Yes — UltraCrete strongly recommend SCJ Seal and Tack Spray on all vertical edges and substrate, and between layers for deeper reinstatements. It creates a waterproof bond and significantly improves repair longevity.

Why is my IRR firm in the tub?

Apply light pressure to the inner bag within the tub to restore normal consistency. In cold weather, store somewhere warm overnight before use.

What is the shelf life?

6 months from date of manufacture in sealed conditions. Once opened, use all material.
