Cempoint is a pre-blended cementitious mortar that you mix with water and place using a wet mortar gun. It is made for pointing paving, steps, brickwork, cladding, chimneys and masonry. The gun is especially useful when the joints are narrow, deep or awkward to reach with a conventional trowel.

Each bag is suitable for joints from 5–25mm wide and 25–100mm deep, with approximately 45 minutes’ working time at 20°C. As guide figures, one bag covers approximately 7m² of 600 × 400mm paving with 6mm joints, so 56 bags would cover approximately 392m² on that example only. Your actual coverage will change with joint size, depth, paving format and waste.

Where can a full pallet of Cempoint be used?

Paving and patios

Cempoint is suitable for pointing natural stone paving and man-made flags. It conforms to the requirements stated for BS 7533 paving construction and suits joints from 5–25mm wide and 25–100mm deep. Prepare the joints properly and make sure the paving and bedding are sound before ordering the mortar.

Steps and vertical work

The mortar gun gives you better control on steps and smaller vertical areas where pushing mortar into the joint by hand can be frustrating. It can be used for suitable cladding and masonry work when the background and joint design are appropriate.

Brickwork, chimneys and masonry

Cempoint is also rated for masonry mortar to BS EN 998 and can be used for suitable pointing and repointing work. Older or softer brickwork needs particular care, so check the existing masonry and the proposed joint before starting.

Why use Cempoint with a mortar gun?

Natural is the only Cempoint colour we hold in our warehouse and it is the colour supplied with this pallet listing. The other colours are Light Brown, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Sandstone, Yorkstone, White, Dark Brown, Brick Red and Black. We can supply these additional colours in full-pallet quantities only, with a minimum order of 48 bags and a 5–7 working day lead time. Contractors who need an additional colour should contact our family-run team before ordering so we can check the requirement and arrange it properly.

These are examples, not guaranteed finished areas. Measure the actual joint width and depth, and allow for the shape of the paving and normal site waste.

How to mix and apply Cempoint

Prepare the joints by removing loose debris and pre-soaking them with clean water. Remove ponded water but keep the joints damp. Mix up to 4 litres of clean water with each 25KG bag for 3–5 minutes until smooth. Allow the mix to stand for 5 minutes before loading the wet mortar gun, following the product instructions. Do not remix or add extra water.

Transfer the mortar into the gun with a trowel and move steadily along the joint. Tool or strike the surface while it is wet, and remove excess material from the face before it hardens. Mix only enough material to apply in approximately 4 minutes. With 56 bags on site, plan the mixing and placing so the team can keep up with the material being prepared.

Technical information and storage

Each bag produces approximately 14.5 litres of mixed material. At 20°C, the working time is approximately 45 minutes, pedestrian traffic is possible after approximately 12 hours and vehicle traffic after approximately 24 hours. Store unopened bags in a cool, dry and frost-free area between 5°C and 30°C. Shelf life is 8 months from the date of manufacture. High temperatures and high humidity can reduce shelf life.

What colour is supplied with this full pallet?

This listing is for Natural. Natural is the only Cempoint colour we hold in our warehouse.

Can I order another colour?

Yes, but the other colours are supplied in full-pallet quantities only, with a minimum order of 48 bags and a 5–7 working day lead time. Contact us before ordering so we can confirm the colour and arrange the order.

What other colours are available?

The additional colours are Light Brown, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Sandstone, Yorkstone, White, Dark Brown, Brick Red and Black. They are not held in our warehouse for normal immediate dispatch.

What is Cempoint used for?

It is used for pointing and repointing paving, steps, cladding, brickwork, chimneys and masonry, especially where a hand-held mortar gun helps get the material into narrow, deep or awkward joints.

Can it be used for paving?

Yes. It is suitable for natural stone paving and man-made flags where the paving, bedding and joints are sound and properly prepared.

Can it be used on vertical surfaces?

Yes, for suitable steps, cladding and masonry façades. Test a small area first and check that the background and joint design are suitable.

How much water does each bag need?

Use up to 4 litres of clean water per 25KG bag. Never add extra water after mixing and do not remix the material.

How wide and deep can the joints be?

Cempoint is suitable for joints from 5–25mm wide and 25–100mm deep.

How much does the pallet cover?

As examples, 56 bags cover approximately 56m² for 100 × 100 × 100mm sets with 6mm joints, or approximately 392m² for 600 × 400mm paving slabs with 6mm joints. These are guide figures and actual coverage depends on the job.

How long is the working time?

The working time is approximately 45 minutes at 20°C, but only mix enough material to apply in the shorter window stated in the application guidance. Warm conditions can shorten working time and cool conditions can slow setting.

When can the area take traffic?

At 20°C, allow approximately 12 hours before pedestrian traffic and approximately 24 hours before vehicle traffic, provided the full installation is ready and conditions have been suitable.

Do I need a mortar gun?

Yes. Cempoint is designed to be transferred into a wet mortar gun for placing into the prepared joints. You will also need suitable mixing equipment and a pointing tool for finishing.

How should the bags be stored?

Store unopened bags in a cool, dry and frost-free area between 5°C and 30°C. Shelf life is 8 months from the date of manufacture. High temperatures and high humidity can reduce shelf life.
