About the product

UltraCrete Instagrip – Anti-Skid Patch Repair System

UltraCrete Instagrip is one of the best anti-skid patch repair systems on the market — an excellent example of a compliant, professional-grade resinous repair product. It's a system road maintenance teams consistently come back to tell us they're delighted with: fast to apply, quick to return to service, and reliably effective at restoring high friction surfacing after maintenance work has taken place.

A two-part, solvent-free polyurethane resin dressed with calcined bauxite aggregate, set time of 1–2 hours, available in five colours (Grey, Buff, Red, Green, Black), conforming to Highways Works clause 924 and Chapter 6 SROH — Instagrip is a professional-strength anti-skid system equally at home on pedestrian crossings and junctions as it is on steel road plates and ductile ironwork.

We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals, and between us we've seen a lot of anti-skid products come and go. Instagrip remains a go-to for good reason: it's straightforward, standards-compliant, and does exactly what it says.

We confidently recommend Instagrip for the patch repair and reinstatement of anti-skid areas on pedestrian crossings, junctions, roundabouts, footbridges, subways, car parks, steel road plates and manhole cover frames. It is not suitable for surfaces under 28 days old or multi-layer surface dressings — if you're working in those conditions, get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.

UltraCrete Instagrip FAQs

I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a small team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals who share the same passion for getting it right. The FAQ answers below come from the questions we're asked every single day.

Can UltraCrete Instagrip be used on steel road plates?

Yes. UltraCrete Instagrip is specifically suitable for use as an anti-skid surface on steel road plates and manhole cover frames. It is a two-part, solvent-free polyurethane resin system dressed with calcined bauxite aggregate to provide a high-friction, anti-skid surface.

How do you apply Instagrip to steel road plates?

Steel road plates should be clean, dry and suitably prepared before applying UltraCrete Instagrip. Any rust, paint or existing coating should be removed, and the steel should be grit blasted to SA2.5 to provide a suitable substrate for the resin system.

The surface should be free from oil, grease and other contamination before application.

How long does UltraCrete Instagrip take to set?

UltraCrete Instagrip has a typical set time of approximately 1–2 hours, allowing the repaired area to return to service relatively quickly. The resin has a working pot life of approximately 10–20 minutes, depending on ambient temperature and humidity.

What is UltraCrete Instagrip used for?

UltraCrete Instagrip is used to repair and reinstate anti-skid, high-friction surfaces following maintenance work. Typical applications include pedestrian crossings, junctions, roundabouts, footbridges, subways, car parks, steel road plates and manhole cover frames.

What colours is UltraCrete Instagrip available in?

UltraCrete Instagrip is available in Grey, Buff, Red, Green and Black. This range allows the system to be selected to suit different high-friction surfacing applications and existing surface colours.

How much area does one pack of Instagrip cover?

One 15kg pack of UltraCrete Instagrip covers up to approximately 1.5m² on a smooth surface. Coverage will vary depending on the texture and porosity of the substrate, with more open or textured surfaces requiring more material.

The maximum application area should not be exceeded, as doing so can result in system failure.

Is UltraCrete Instagrip suitable for anti-skid repairs?

Yes. UltraCrete Instagrip is specifically designed for patching and reinstating high-friction, anti-skid areas. Its resin and calcined bauxite aggregate system provides a textured, skid-resistant surface for areas where anti-skid performance needs to be restored after maintenance or repair work.

What preparation is required before applying Instagrip?

The substrate must be clean, dry and sound before UltraCrete Instagrip is applied. Oil, grease and other contamination should be removed by appropriate mechanical means.

For steel road plates and ductile ironwork, rust, paint and other coatings should be removed and the surface grit blasted to SA2.5. Proper preparation is essential to achieving a successful application.

What is UltraCrete Instagrip made from?

UltraCrete Instagrip is a two-part, solvent-free polyurethane resin system combined with calcined bauxite aggregate. The product is supplied in pre-weighed packs, with the aggregate provided separately within the pack for the application process.

The system is designed to provide a durable, high-friction surface for anti-skid repairs and reinstatement.

Does UltraCrete Instagrip comply with highway high-friction surfacing requirements?

UltraCrete Instagrip conforms to the Specification for Highways Works, Clause 924, and Chapter 6 High Friction Surfacing of the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways for resin-based skid-resistant surface treatments. This makes it suitable for specified high-friction and anti-skid repair applications when installed in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements.

How to Mix and Apply UltraCrete Instagrip Anti-Skid Patch Repair Before you begin: ensure the surface is clean, dry and in sound condition. Apply masking tape to outline the repair area and create a straight edge. Surface Preparation: Bituminous surfaces: correct any surface irregularity before application. Remove any 'fatty' bitumen build-up by mechanical means. Do not apply to surfaces under 28 days old or to multi-layer surface dressings. Concrete surfaces: remove any surface laitance. Mechanically abrade old concrete to a sound substrate. All concrete surfaces must be primed prior to application. Steel road plates / ductile ironwork: remove all rust, paint and other coatings. Grit blast to SA2.5 standard. Mixing & Application (wearing the disposable gloves provided): 1. Add the full contents of the activator bottle to the resin base in the tub. DO NOT part mix. 2. Mix the two parts thoroughly using the wooden spatula provided. 3. Pour the mixed resin onto the prepared area (within the masking tape) and spread with the plastic applicator. 4. Spread evenly across the full area, paying close attention to edges and corners. 5. Scatter the aggregate onto the resin as soon as possible — before it begins to set. 6. Ensure any resin bleed is covered with aggregate. 7. Once fully set, sweep away any excess aggregate. 8. Do not open the surface to traffic or disturbance until the binder has fully cured — typically 1–2 hours depending on temperature and humidity. Pot life: 10–20 minutes depending on ambient temperature and humidity. Work promptly once mixed.
