How to prepare the joints
- Remove loose material and debris from the joints.
- Pre-soak the joints with clean water, then remove any ponded water. The joints should remain damp while Cempoint is being placed.
- Test a small area first to check compatibility with the paving, brickwork or stone being used.
How to mix UltraScape Cempoint
- Place up to 4 litres of clean water into a suitable drum or forced-action mixer.
- Add the contents of one 25KG bag of Cempoint.
- Mix for 3–5 minutes until you have an even, smooth mix.
- Allow the mixed material to stand for 5 minutes before loading the mortar gun, following the product instructions.
- Never remix or add extra water. Mix only enough material to apply in approximately 4 minutes.
How to place and finish Cempoint
- Transfer the mixed material into a wet mortar gun using a trowel.
- Move the gun steadily along the prepared joint, keeping good contact with the substrate as you fill it.
- Tool or strike the joint while the material is still wet to achieve the required profile.
- Remove all mortar from the face of the paving, brickwork or cladding while it is still wet.
- Wash tools frequently and clean them thoroughly after use.
Cempoint can accept pedestrian traffic after approximately 12 hours and vehicle traffic after approximately 24 hours at 20°C. Cool conditions slow the process and warmer conditions speed it up.
Safety and weather
Wear suitable protective clothing and avoid skin and eye contact. Wet cement can burn skin. Do not use in unsuitable weather, and take account of the fact that cool temperatures retard setting while warm temperatures accelerate it.

UltraScape Cempoint 25KG | Gun-Injected Pointing Mortar
UltraScape Cempoint is a cementitious mortar that you mix on site and place with a hand-held mortar gun. It is made for pointing paving, steps, brickwork, cladding, chimneys and masonry, particularly where joints are narrow, deep or awkward to reach with a conventional trowel.
For landscapers, the useful bit is the control. Once the joints have been prepared and kept damp, the mortar can be pushed neatly into the gap with the gun, then tooled to the profile you want while it is still wet. It is suitable for joints from 5–25mm wide and 25–100mm deep.
Cempoint is supplied as a pre-blended 25KG bag. You add water on site, mix it to a smooth consistency and load it into a wet mortar gun. It has approximately 45 minutes’ working time at 20°C, although you should only mix enough material to place in the short working window stated in the application guidance.
We’re a small, family-run business — I’m Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. We spend a lot of time talking through paving jobs with landscapers, and with a gun-injected mortar the preparation usually makes more difference than people expect. Clean, damp joints, a steady hand and removing excess from the face while the mortar is wet will give you a much easier job than trying to tidy everything once it has hardened.
Where can Cempoint be used?
Paving and patios
Cempoint is suitable for pointing natural stone paving and man-made flags, with a 5–25mm joint width and 25–100mm joint depth. It conforms to the requirements stated for BS 7533 paving construction. Coverage depends on the paving size, joint width and depth. As a guide, one 25KG bag covers approximately 7m² based on 600 × 400mm paving slabs with 6mm joints.
Steps, cladding and vertical work
The gun makes Cempoint useful on steps and small or intricate vertical areas where getting mortar into the joint can be awkward. It can be used for suitable cladding and masonry work, provided the background, materials and joint design are appropriate for the installation.
Brickwork, chimneys and masonry
Cempoint is also designed for pointing and repointing many types of brickwork, chimneys and masonry façades. It is rated for masonry mortar to BS EN 998. Check the existing masonry carefully before repointing, particularly on older or softer brickwork.
Why use a gun-injected mortar?
- The mortar can be placed neatly into narrow or deep joints.
- A hand-held gun gives you control around steps, edges, cladding and other awkward areas.
- The mix has a smooth consistency when prepared correctly.
- It is supplied as a pre-blended product, so you add water rather than measuring separate dry ingredients.
- The shrinkage-compensated formulation helps reduce shrinkage as the mortar hardens.
- It is resistant to freeze-thaw weather conditions when used as part of a suitable installation.
- Natural is the only colour we hold in our warehouse. Additional colours can be supplied in full-pallet quantities only, with a minimum order of 48 bags and a 5–7 working day lead time.
Colours and availability
Natural is the only Cempoint colour held in our warehouse and available for the normal online order. The additional colours are Light Brown, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Sandstone, Yorkstone, White, Dark Brown, Brick Red and Black. We can supply these colours in full-pallet quantities only, with a minimum order of 48 bags and a 5–7 working day lead time. Contractors needing an additional colour should contact our family-run team before ordering so we can check the requirement and arrange the correct quantity.

Coverage guide
| Example | Approximate coverage per 25KG bag |
|---|---|
| Sets 100 × 100 × 100mm with a 6mm joint | Approximately 1m² |
| 600 × 400mm paving slabs with a 6mm joint | Approximately 7m² |
These are guide figures only. Your actual coverage will change with joint width, joint depth, paving size, substrate and waste. If you have a larger job, tell us the paving size and joint measurements and we can help you work out a sensible quantity.
How Cempoint is supplied and stored
Cempoint comes in a 25KG showerproof reinforced paper bag. One bag needs up to 4 litres of clean water and produces approximately 14.5 litres of mixed material. Store unopened bags in a cool, dry and frost-free area between 5°C and 30°C. The shelf life is 8 months from the date of manufacture printed on the bag. High temperatures and high humidity can reduce shelf life.

Cempoint questions we’re asked
I’m Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts. These are the questions we’re most often asked about using Cempoint on paving and masonry work.
What is UltraScape Cempoint?
It is a pre-blended cementitious pointing mortar that is mixed with water and placed into prepared joints with a wet mortar gun. It is suitable for paving, steps, cladding, brickwork, chimneys and masonry.
What is Cempoint used for?
Cempoint is used for pointing and repointing paving slabs, brickwork, masonry façades, cladding and steps, including small or intricate areas where a hand-held gun is useful.
Can Cempoint be used for paving?
Yes. It is suitable for natural stone paving and man-made flags, with joint widths of 5–25mm and depths of 25–100mm. The paving and bedding need to be sound and the joints properly prepared.
Can Cempoint be used on vertical surfaces?
Yes. It is designed for suitable vertical work such as cladding, steps and masonry façades. Test a small area first and make sure the background and joint design are suitable.
How do I apply Cempoint?
Prepare and pre-soak the joints, mix the powder with up to 4 litres of clean water per 25KG bag, transfer the mix into a wet mortar gun, fill the joints steadily and tool them while wet. Remove excess material from the face before it starts to harden.
How much water does one bag need?
Use up to 4 litres of clean water per 25KG bag. Do not add extra water after mixing, and do not remix the material.
How wide and deep can the joints be?
Cempoint is suitable for joints from 5–25mm wide and 25–100mm deep.
How long is the working time?
The working time is approximately 45 minutes at 20°C, but only mix enough to place within the shorter application window stated in the product guidance. Warm conditions can shorten working time and cool conditions can slow setting.
When can I walk on the paving?
At 20°C, the area can accept pedestrian traffic after approximately 12 hours.
When can vehicles use the paving?
At 20°C, vehicular traffic can be accepted after approximately 24 hours, provided the full paving installation is ready and conditions have been suitable.
What colours does Cempoint come in?
Natural, Light Brown, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Sandstone, Yorkstone, White, Dark Brown, Brick Red and Black are available. Natural is the only colour we hold in our warehouse. The other colours require a minimum order of 48 bags, are supplied in full-pallet quantities only and have a 5–7 working day lead time. Contractors needing an additional colour should contact us before ordering.
How much does one 25KG bag cover?
As guide figures, one bag covers approximately 1m² for sets measuring 100 × 100 × 100mm with a 6mm joint, or approximately 7m² for 600 × 400mm paving slabs with a 6mm joint. Measure your own joints carefully because coverage can vary considerably.
Is Cempoint shrinkage compensated?
Yes. Cempoint is shrinkage compensated and has a stated shrinkage figure of 0.1% in the technical information.
Is Cempoint resistant to frost and freeze-thaw conditions?
It is resistant to freeze-thaw weather conditions when used correctly as part of a suitable paving or masonry installation.
How should I store Cempoint?
Keep unopened bags in a cool, dry and frost-free area between 5°C and 30°C. The shelf life is 8 months from the date of manufacture. High temperatures and high humidity can reduce shelf life.
Do I need a grout gun?
Yes. Cempoint is designed to be transferred into a wet mortar gun for placing into the prepared joints. You will also need suitable mixing equipment and a standard pointing tool for finishing.
Not sure which colour, quantity or pointing method suits your job? Contact our family-run team on 0330 122 1025. Tell us what you’re pointing, the joint size and whether the work is horizontal or vertical, and we’ll talk it through.
