Why Choose the Tub Over the Bag?
The tub and bag contain exactly the same IRR 10mm material — the difference is entirely about how you work on site. Once opened, all material should be used.
| 25kg Tub | 25kg Bag | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Contractors across multiple site jobs | Larger single repairs, bulk purchasing |
| Stackability | Yes — stacks easily on site | No |
| Units per pallet | 52 | 56 |
| Handling | Rigid container, easy to carry and move around site | Flexible foil bag |
| Once opened | Use all material | Use all material |
Choose the tub if you're a contractor moving between jobs on a major site, need a format that stacks and handles easily, or prefer a rigid container at the point of repair.
Choose the bag if you're completing larger repairs or buying in bulk — bags give better pallet efficiency (56 vs 52 tubs).

10mm vs 6mm — Which Grade Do I Need?
| IRR 10mm | IRR 6mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregate | Nominal 10mm | Nominal 6mm |
| Primary application | Type 3 & 4 roads | Footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks & driveways |

| Traffic type | Motor vehicle / carriageway | Pedestrian, cycle & light vehicle |
| Pallet quantity (tubs) | 52 x 25kg | 52 x 25kg |
If the repair is shallower than 30mm, IRR 6mm (minimum 15mm) is the correct specification. If you're unsure, call us on 0330 122 1025.
Need Even More Skid Resistance?
For high-stress applications such as turning circles, lorry parks or areas where maximum skid resistance is critical, UltraCrete Tough Patch is the recommended product. It is specifically formulated for surfaces subject to repeated heavy vehicle stress and turning loads. Call us on 0330 122 1025 if you're unsure.

UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 10mm Tub FAQs
I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a small team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals who share the same passion for getting it right. The FAQ answers below come from the questions we're asked every single day.
What is the difference between the tub and the bag?
Both contain 25kg of the same IRR 10mm material and once opened, all material should be used. The tub is preferred by contractors who need a stackable, rigid container that's easy to move around site and between jobs. The bag gives better pallet efficiency (56 vs 52 tubs per pallet) and suits larger single repairs or bulk purchasing.
Can I reseal the tub and use it later?
No — once opened, all material should be used. IRR begins to cure on contact with air, so the tub format is about site handling convenience, not partial use. Plan to use the full contents when you open a tub.
Is Instant Road Repair 10mm a permanent repair?
Yes. When applied correctly — including use of UltraCrete SCJ to seal edges and substrate — IRR 10mm provides a first-time permanent reinstatement. HAPAS approved since 2002 for Type 3 and 4 roads.
What surfaces is IRR 10mm designed for?
Type 3 and 4 roads and vehicle-trafficked surfaces including drives, minor roads and car parks. For footways, footpaths and cycle tracks, IRR 6mm is the correct specification.
How quickly can the area be opened to traffic?
Instantly — once correctly compacted, immediately trafficable for motor vehicles. No curing wait required.
Can I use IRR 10mm in the rain?
IRR 10mm is compaction-cured and can be used in light rain. If heavy or persistent rain is forecast, UltraCrete Tough Patch is the better product — it is water-cured rather than compaction-cured, and is specifically designed for wet conditions.
When should I use Tough Patch instead of IRR 10mm?
UltraCrete Tough Patch is designed for areas requiring maximum skid resistance — turning circles, lorry parks, bus lanes, braking areas — and for use in heavy or persistent rain, as it is water-cured rather than compaction-cured. Call us on 0330 122 1025 if you're unsure.
What is the difference between 10mm and 6mm?
10mm is for Type 3 and 4 roads (minimum 30mm depth). 6mm is for footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks and driveways (minimum 15mm). If your repair is shallower than 30mm, 6mm is the correct specification.
Do I need to use SCJ?
Yes — UltraCrete strongly recommend SCJ Seal and Tack Spray on all vertical edges and substrate, and between layers. It creates a waterproof bond and significantly improves repair longevity.
Why is my IRR firm in the tub?
Apply light pressure to the inner bag within the tub to restore normal consistency. In cold weather, store somewhere warm overnight before use.
What is the shelf life?
6 months from date of manufacture in sealed conditions. Once opened, use all material.
Is a pallet deal available?

- Ensure the area is clean and free from debris.
- Seal the vertical edges and substrate using UltraCrete SCJ Cold-Joint Spray. Reinstatements up to 100mm deep can be completed using a layer-on-layer method.
- Apply the product to a depth of approximately 45mm and compact to 30mm to form the first layer.
- Re-apply SCJ Edge Sealant to the vertical edges before applying the second layer of Instant Road Repair 10MM.
- Repeat step 4.
- Re-apply SCJ to the vertical edges.
- Apply a final 60mm layer and compact to 40mm to achieve the finished surface course.
Please note: All compaction should be carried out in accordance with Appendix 8 of the SROH 2010. If over-banding is required, apply UltraCrete Instaband ECO.

Prefer the bag format? See IRR 10mm 25kg bag. Need the 6mm grade for footways, cycle tracks or car parks? See IRR 6mm tub. Need maximum skid resistance for turning circles or lorry parks? See UltraCrete Tough Patch. Buying a full pallet? See our 52-tub pallet deal with free delivery to England & Wales.
What is UltraCrete Instant Road Repair 10mm?
Instant Road Repair 10mm is a HAPAS Approved permanent cold-lay surfacing asphalt concrete for first-time permanent reinstatements in Type 3 and 4 roads and vehicle-trafficked surfaces including drives, minor roads and car parks. It is manufactured with fully graded, high PSV (65) interlocking aggregate and a specially formulated bitumen containing polymers and flexibilisers — giving it an easy-work, easy-compact formula that performs in all weather conditions. Supplied ready to apply directly from the tub — no mixing or heating required.
When used with UltraCrete SCJ Seal and Tack Spray, the repair is permanent and immediately open to motor vehicle traffic once compacted. It also forms part of the UltraCrete HAPAS Approved Ironwork Reinstatement System, and is approved for use on the London Underground and Overground.
10mm vs 6mm — Which Grade Do I Need?
| IRR 10mm | IRR 6mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Aggregate | Nominal 10mm | Nominal 6mm |
| Primary application | Type 3 & 4 roads | Footways, footpaths, cycle tracks, car parks & driveways |
| Min–max repair depth | 30–100mm | 15–100mm |

Yes — see our 52-tub pallet deal with free standard delivery to England & Wales. Bulk pricing on 39+ tubs — call 0330 122 1025.
