Should I buy bags or buckets?
Both contain exactly the same product — it comes down to how your team works on site. Buckets are resealable and practical when you need a measured unit or you’re working in a confined space. How much Perma-Soil do I need per cubic metre?

Checking Soil Moisture Before You Start
A quick squeeze test before mixing is worth doing:
- Squeeze a handful of excavated material into a ball. If it holds together, moisture is sufficient — soil is normal and standard dosing applies.
- If it won’t hold together, add a small amount of water until it does.
- If moisture is squeezed out when you compress it, the soil is wet — use the higher dosage rate.
Dosage Rates
- 25KG bag or 25KG bucket: Use 1–2 units (25–50kg) per cubic metre of spoil. Use 2 for saturated soil. Never use less than 1 unit (25kg) per cubic metre.
- 12.5KG bucket: Use 2–4 buckets (25–50kg) per cubic metre. Use 4 for saturated soil. Never use less than 2 buckets per cubic metre.
Mixing & Application
- Lay the excavated spoil on a mixing sheet or board next to the repair area.
- Add Perma-Soil and mix thoroughly by hand into the spoil as you excavate or while the repair is being made.
- Before backfilling, sprinkle a small amount of Perma-Soil onto the walls of the excavation.
- Allow 30–60 minutes after mixing before backfilling.
- Compact the stabilised material back in 150mm layers, as per Specification for Highways Works Series 800, Section 802 (5–9).
- For a stronger surface cap — particularly where heavy traffic is expected — add extra stabiliser to the last lift.
- Compact 60mm below the surface in footpaths and 100mm below in Type 3 & 4 carriageways.
Clegg Hammer Test
Once compaction is done, a Clegg Hammer Test is recommended. Required values: 18 IV for a footway, 21 IV for a carriageway. Drop the hammer 5 times — the 4th reading is the one that matters. The 5th should be within +1 or −2 units of the 4th to pass.
Surface Reinstatement
Spray vertical edges and the compacted sub-base with SCJ Seal & Tack Coat before applying Instant Road Repair.
- 6mm IRR: Apply to approx. 45mm, compact to 30mm, repeat for 60mm total depth.
- 10mm IRR: Apply to approx. 45mm, compact to 30mm; repeat; final 60mm layer compacted to 40mm.
Precautions
- Perma-Soil will stain — wear protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.
- Avoid skin and eye contact.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage — high concentrations raise pH, which can affect buried services.

What pallet options are available?
We offer two pallet configurations: 54 x 25KG plastic bags or 30 x 25KG buckets. Both come with free delivery. If you’re not sure which format suits your operation best, give us a ring and we’ll talk it through.
How much do I save by buying a pallet?
Our pallet prices work out at around 5% less than buying individual bags or buckets. You also get free delivery, which adds to the saving on larger orders. If you’re buying in even bigger volumes, call us on 0330 122 1025 and we’ll see what we can do.
Do you offer bulk discounts beyond pallet quantities?
Yes — give us a call on 0330 122 1025 and we’ll discuss what’s possible. We’re a small team and we’d rather have a conversation than leave you guessing.
Is delivery really free on pallets?
Yes — all pallet orders include free delivery. Lead times can vary so if you’re working to a deadline, call us and we’ll give you an accurate estimate.
What is UltraCrete Perma-Soil and what does it do?
Perma-Soil is a soil stabiliser that turns suitable excavated spoil into compliant backfill material on site, in minutes. Rather than removing spoil and bringing in replacement aggregate, you mix Perma-Soil with the material you’ve already dug out and compact it back in. It’s designed for small utility excavations — water meters, valve boxes, water tobies, overhead poles and similar applications.
Should I buy bags or buckets?
Both contain exactly the same product — it comes down to how your team works on site. Buckets are resealable and practical when you need a measured unit or you’re working in a confined space. Bags tend to work out slightly more economical per kg for higher-volume jobs. Not sure? Call us and we’ll help you work it out.
How much Perma-Soil do I need per cubic metre?
You’ll need 25–50kg per cubic metre of spoil, depending on conditions. For saturated soil, use the higher dosage. Never use less than 25kg per cubic metre. See the mixing tab for the full dosage guide.
Is Perma-Soil Appendix A9 approved?
Yes. Perma-Soil is Appendix A9 approved and suitable for use in accordance with Appendix A9 of the SROH for SMF and SMR applications.
Can Perma-Soil be re-excavated?
Yes — which is one of the reasons it’s so well suited to utility infrastructure work. If future access is needed, the stabilised material can be re-excavated.
How quickly does it cure?
85% strength within one hour, fully cured within 24 hours.

Delivery & Returns Info
Our delivery charges are calculated based on the size and weight of your order. When you add items to your basket, the delivery charges are displayed. Small orders are distributed via courier; larger orders via Pallet Network. Collection is available from our Tamworth depot by request (contact us first to arrange on 0330 122 1025).
Please note, there is a slight surcharge for areas that are outside of our locality, charges calculated at checkout.

Checking Soil Moisture Before You Start
A quick squeeze test before mixing is worth doing:
- Squeeze a handful of excavated material into a ball. If it holds together, moisture is sufficient — soil is normal and standard dosing applies.
- If it won’t hold together, add a small amount of water until it does.
- If moisture is squeezed out when you compress it, the soil is wet — use the higher dosage rate.
Dosage Rates
- 25KG bag or 25KG bucket: Use 1–2 units (25–50kg) per cubic metre of spoil. Use 2 for saturated soil. Never use less than 1 unit (25kg) per cubic metre.
- 12.5KG bucket: Use 2–4 buckets (25–50kg) per cubic metre. Use 4 for saturated soil. Never use less than 2 buckets per cubic metre.
Mixing & Application
- Lay the excavated spoil on a mixing sheet or board next to the repair area.
- Add Perma-Soil and mix thoroughly by hand into the spoil as you excavate or while the repair is being made.
- Before backfilling, sprinkle a small amount of Perma-Soil onto the walls of the excavation.
- Allow 30–60 minutes after mixing before backfilling.
- Compact the stabilised material back in 150mm layers, as per Specification for Highways Works Series 800, Section 802 (5–9).
- For a stronger surface cap — particularly where heavy traffic is expected — add extra stabiliser to the last lift.
- Compact 60mm below the surface in footpaths and 100mm below in Type 3 & 4 carriageways.
Clegg Hammer Test
Once compaction is done, a Clegg Hammer Test is recommended. Required values: 18 IV for a footway, 21 IV for a carriageway. Drop the hammer 5 times — the 4th reading is the one that matters. The 5th should be within +1 or −2 units of the 4th to pass.
Surface Reinstatement
Spray vertical edges and the compacted sub-base with SCJ Seal & Tack Coat before applying Instant Road Repair.
- 6mm IRR: Apply to approx. 45mm, compact to 30mm, repeat for 60mm total depth.
- 10mm IRR: Apply to approx. 45mm, compact to 30mm; repeat; final 60mm layer compacted to 40mm.
Precautions
- Perma-Soil will stain — wear protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.
- Avoid skin and eye contact.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage — high concentrations raise pH, which can affect buried services.
