About the product

Joint-It Slurry Primer: High Strength Paving Primer for Porcelain, Natural Stone & Concrete Paving Slabs

Joint-It Slurry Primer is a high strength priming slurry for porcelain, natural stone, granite setts & concrete paving slabs. With exceptional bond strength, it creates a super strength adhesion between your paving slabs and the bedding base underneath.

Joint-It Slurry Primer is applied to the back of the paving slab before laying it onto a full contact, concrete base. The slurry primer serves as a bonding agent, allowing the paving material to adhere securely to the base, creating a smooth, strong and durable surface. It fills in any cracks or pores on the base, creating a smooth and even substrate for the paving slab.

Quick to apply with a brush or roller, this paving slurry only requires one coat, one coat to the paving bed, and one to the paving slab itself.

As a crucial component in the paving process due to the thinner, less weighty modern slabs we have now, Joint-It Slurry Primer provides an effective, cost-efficient solution to create a strong, durable, and long-lasting base that will ensure the paving bed and slab adhere without debonding. With its numerous benefits, such as preventing staining, efflorescence and excellent grip - it is an excellent choice for any paving project, whether small or large, domestic or commercial. Looking for a grout - try Joint-It Dynamic, ideal for permeable and impermeable beds!

Does Joint-It Slurry Primer Help Reduce The Risk of De-bonding (De-lamination)?

Yes, Joint-It Slurry Primer penetrates the substrate and creates a mechanical bond that reduces the risk of de-lamination or separation between the paving slab or tile and the substrate. This ensures a stable and reliable installation.

Why do I need a specialist paving primer, won't SBR be ok?

Contrary to popular opinion, a specialist paving primer is essential to adhere the bedding substrate to the paving slab or tile. This wet on wet bond, primer on the slab - primer on the bed, reduces the risk of de-lamination or separation between the paving slab or tile and the substrate. Paving Primers ensure a stable and reliable patio installation. Why? Modern slabs aren't as weighty as their older counterparts, where-as years ago the sheer weight of the slab would have ensured it remained in place, modern slabs are much thinner, some now are only 18MM thick and just don't have the weight needed to stay stabled on the base. Plus, a primer ensures a barrier is created to prevent grout leaching into the slabs, creating picture framing, efflorescence or stains on the surface. As for the use of SBR, or styrene-butadiene rubber - when exposed to freezing temperatures; SBR becomes brittle and cracks, leaving the paving slabs liable to movement.

Can Joint-It Slurry Primer Level Slabs?

Joint-It Slurry Primer fills in any voids or imperfections in the substrate, creating a level surface for the tile. This ensures that the tile installation is even and smooth, reducing the risk of tripping hazards or unsightly bumps.

In what temperatures can Joint-It Slurry Primer be used?

Do not use Joint-It Elite if the temperature is forecast to drop close to or below freezing within 12 hours of application. Ideally application Temperatures should be +5°C to +30°C

How soon can I walk on my patio, after applying Joint-It Slurry Primer?

The paving should not be walked on for approximately 24 hours, or driven on for 3 days after application of Joint-It Slurry Primer. Weather conditions will determine how quickly Joint-It Slurry Primer takes to fully harden/set, hot temperatures accelerate hardening, cold temperatures delay.

How much Joint-It Slurry Primer should I use on my slab?

Approx. 1-2mm of Joint-It Paving Slurry Primer should be used on the slab or tile, and the same on your full concrete paving bed too.

What is the shelf life of Joint-It Slurry Primer?

Unopened, a 17KG Tub of Joint-It Slurry Primer should be stored in a cool, dark, dry area, away from extreme temperatures. Shelf life is 6 months for unopened products, when following manufacturers storage guidelines.

What is the coverage of Joint-It Slurry Primer?

Each 17KG Tub of Joint-It Paving Slurry Primer covers approx. 16m² when applied to the back of the flag and around 7.65m² when applied to both the flag and base

How do I apply Joint-It Slurry Paving Primer?

    1. To mix Joint-It Slurry Primer, pour the required amount of primer into a clean mixing bucket
    2. Add 250ml water per 1KG Primer (Always add water to primer powder, never the other way around)
    3. Mix with paddle mixer for at least 3-4 minutes to achieve desired consistency
    4. Joint-It Slurry Primer should have a semi-fluid, custard like consistency to ensure easy adhesion to substrate. (Please note: If more water is added to the mix, this will reduce the strength of the product. Joint-It Slurry Primer can cure quickly depending on weather conditions. Use product within 1 hour of mixing)
    5. To Apply Joint-It Slurry Primer, always test a small area before beginning the paving project
    6. Firstly apply Joint-it Slurry Primer using a stiff brush or a roller, to a thickness of 1-2mm to the back of your slab or tile
    7. Secondly apply Joint-it Slurry Primer onto your mortar bed, before placing the primed slab onto the bedding mortar - wet slab to wet bed
    8. Joint-It Slurry Primer should be used immediately after mixing the product. It should have a wet flowable, custard like consistency.
    9. Please note that if Joint-It Slurry Primer has begun to cure before applying - do not use.
    10. Shelf life is 6 months in unopened tubs, kept away from extreme heat, drafts, cold and damp
Paving primer creates a strong bond between the bedding mortar and the underside of the slab, reducing the risk of movement, cracking or debonding over time.
