How to apply Joint-It Slurry Primer

- Do not add extra water, as this reduces the strength of the primer. Use the mix within approximately one hour, depending on conditions.
- Test a small area before starting the full project.
- Apply an approximately 1–2mm coat to the back of the slab or tile using a stiff brush or roller.
- Apply the primer to the mortar bed, then place the primed slab onto the wet bed to create a wet-on-wet bond.
- Use the primer immediately after mixing. If it has started to cure, do not use it.

Can it be used with porcelain paving?
Yes. It is suitable for porcelain as well as natural stone, granite setts and concrete paving slabs. The slab must be securely bedded and the primer applied to both surfaces before the slab is placed onto the wet bed.
Can it be used with natural stone?
Yes. It can be used with sandstone, limestone, slate, Yorkstone, granite, quartz and other suitable natural stone paving. Always test a small area and follow the preparation guidance for the particular stone.
How much water do I add?
Add approximately 250ml of clean water per 1KG of primer powder. Adding more water can reduce the strength of the finished primer.
What consistency should the primer have?
After mixing for approximately 3–4 minutes, it should have a smooth, semi-fluid, custard-like consistency that can be applied evenly with a stiff brush or roller.
How thick should the primer be?
Apply approximately 1–2mm to the back of the paving slab or tile and the same to the mortar bed.
How long can the mixed primer be used?
Use the primer within approximately one hour of mixing, depending on weather conditions. Do not use it if it has started to cure.
What temperature can I apply it in?
The recommended application temperature is +5°C to +30°C.
How much coverage does a 20KG bag provide?
One 20KG bag covers approximately 18m², depending on the application thickness and the surfaces being coated.
When can I walk on the paving?
Allow approximately 24 hours before light foot traffic. Weather conditions affect how quickly the primer and bedding system harden.
When can vehicles use the paving?
Vehicle traffic may be possible after approximately 2–3 days, depending on weather conditions and the full paving installation.
Can Slurry Primer level a slab?
It can help fill small voids or imperfections in the substrate, but it is not a substitute for a properly prepared, level and stable bedding base.
Is it a replacement for SBR?
Joint-It Slurry Primer is a specialist paving primer designed for the wet-on-wet bonding of slabs and bedding. If you are unsure whether it is suitable for your project, contact our team before choosing a primer.
What is the shelf life?
An unopened 20KG bag has a six-month shelf life when stored in a cool, dark and dry place away from extreme temperatures.
How should it be stored?
Keep the unopened bag in a cool, dark and dry area and protect it from damp and extreme temperatures.
How do I clean the tools?
Clean tools with warm water immediately after use.

Our delivery charges are calculated based on the size and weight of your order. When you add items to your basket, the delivery charges are displayed. Small orders are distributed via courier; larger orders via Pallet Network. Collection is available from our Tamworth depot by request (contact us first to arrange on 0330 122 1025).

How to apply Joint-It Slurry Primer 20KG
- Pour the required amount of primer powder into a clean mixing bucket.
- Add 250ml of clean water per 1KG of primer. Always add water to the powder, not powder to water.
- Mix with a paddle mixer for 3–4 minutes until you have a smooth, semi-fluid, custard-like consistency.
- Do not add extra water, as this reduces the strength of the primer. Use the mixed product within approximately 1 hour, depending on conditions.
- Test a small area before starting the full paving project.
- Apply a 1–2mm coat to the back of the slab or tile with a stiff brush or roller.
- Apply the primer to the mortar bed, then place the primed slab onto the wet bed to create a wet-on-wet bond.
- Use the primer immediately after mixing. If it has started to cure, do not use it.
Clean tools with warm water after use. Store unopened bags in a cool, dark, dry place away from extreme temperatures.
