About the product

UltraCrete PPR 26 x 25KG Buckets + SCJ Seal & Tack — 12 x 750ml Cans | Free Delivery

UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair (PPR) is a cold lay asphalt we genuinely rate — and when you pair it with SCJ Seal & Tack Coat, you have a complete, HAPAS approved permanent pothole repair system ready to go. Our customers consistently come back to tell us they're delighted with the combination: fast to apply, instantly trafficable, and robust enough for planned and reactive repairs in all weathers.

This bundle: 26 x 25KG PPR resealable buckets + 12 x SCJ Seal & Tack Coat 750ml cans. HAPAS approved. Instantly trafficable. PPR suitable for depths 10mm–100mm. SCJ covers 10 linear metres per can. Free delivery.

We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals, and between us we've seen a lot of cold lay systems come and go. The PPR + SCJ combination is the right way to do a permanent repair properly — SCJ seals the edges and substrate, PPR fills and compacts, and the repair is trafficable immediately.

26 buckets is the practical middle ground: more than a single bucket order, without committing to a full pallet of 52. If you need the full pallet, our 52 x 25KG PPR + 12 x SCJ bundle is available. For bulk pricing beyond that, call us on 0330 122 1025.

Please note: UltraCrete PPR is certified for minor routine or reactive repairs of potholes and similar defects with a total area of less than 1m² and a depth greater than 15mm. Always assess suitability against the specific application and follow the manufacturer’s guidance and relevant HAPAS documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a small team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals who share the same passion for getting it right. The FAQ answers below come from the questions we're asked every single day.

What is included in this bundle?

This deal includes 26 x 25KG UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair (PPR) resealable plastic buckets plus 12 x UltraCrete SCJ Seal & Tack Coat 750ml aerosol cans, with free delivery.

Why buy PPR and SCJ together?

PPR and SCJ are designed to work together as a complete permanent repair system. SCJ seals the vertical edges and substrate of the pothole before PPR is applied — this prevents water ingress, improves the bond between old and new asphalt, and significantly prolongs the life of the repair. Buying together means you always have both products available and avoids the need for a separate SCJ order mid-programme.

Is UltraCrete PPR HAPAS approved?

Yes. UltraCrete Permanent Pothole Repair gained HAPAS approval in 2011. The BBA HAPAS certificate states that UltraCrete PPR is satisfactory for minor routine or reactive repairs of potholes and similar defects in bituminous surfaces.

Is UltraCrete SCJ HAPAS approved?

Yes. UltraCrete SCJ Seal & Tack Coat has been HAPAS approved since 2005. It also conforms to S6.8 of the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways (SROH) Fourth Edition 2020 and is NBS Source registered.

Can UltraCrete PPR be trafficked immediately?

Yes. UltraCrete PPR is instantly trafficable after compaction, allowing repaired areas to be returned to pedestrian or vehicular use with no waiting time.

How deep can UltraCrete PPR be applied?

UltraCrete PPR can be applied at depths from 10mm to 100mm in a single pass. Greater depths can be achieved using the layer-on-layer method, applying SCJ to the vertical faces between layers.

How much does one 25KG bucket of PPR cover?

Coverage is approximately 1m² at 12–15mm compacted depth per 25KG bucket, depending on surface regularity. For deeper repairs, use the layer-on-layer method. If you're unsure on quantities, call us on 0330 122 1025 and we'll help you work it out.

How much does one can of SCJ cover?

One 750ml can of UltraCrete SCJ covers 10 linear metres, based on a width of 60mm and 2mm thickness. For a typical pothole repair this is more than sufficient for sealing the vertical edges and substrate.

Can UltraCrete PPR be used in cold weather?

Yes. The BBA certificate states PPR can be installed, compacted and trafficked immediately when air and road temperatures are between -5°C and 40°C, subject to the conditions specified in the certification.

Can UltraCrete PPR be used in the rain?

Yes. UltraCrete PPR is designed to be trafficked instantly in wet, freezing and hot conditions. The wet weather properties previously offered in the separate PPR Wet formulation have been incorporated into the standard PPR product — so one product covers planned, reactive and wet weather repairs.

Can SCJ be used in all weathers?

Yes. UltraCrete SCJ can be applied to damp or dry surfaces in all weathers, making it suitable for year-round highway maintenance and reinstatement work.

Do I need to use SCJ before applying PPR?

We recommend using SCJ with PPR for a permanent repair. SCJ seals the pothole edges and substrate before PPR is applied, improving the bond and preventing water ingress. For the specified system performance, installation should follow the current product guidance and applicable certification requirements.

Why is my PPR firm in the bucket?

Buckets can appear firm due to the weight of material or transit. Roll the inner bag inside the bucket with your knee — this reactivates the binder and quickly restores the material to its normal consistency. In cold conditions, storing the bucket somewhere warm for 24 hours before use also helps considerably.

What is the shelf life of PPR?

6 months from the date of manufacture in sealed buckets, stored in cool, well-ventilated and dry conditions, protected from frost and high temperatures. The date of manufacture is usually found on the lid or side of the tub.

What is the shelf life of SCJ?

24 months in sealed cans, stored in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and temperatures above 50°C.

Is this bundle suitable for local authorities and highways contractors?

Yes. Both products are HAPAS approved and specification-ready, making this bundle a practical choice for local authority highway maintenance programmes and highways contractor reactive and planned repair works.

Can I use this bundle to repair a pothole on a private driveway?

Yes. Both PPR and SCJ are suitable for homeowners repairing potholes on private driveways and shared access roads. The 26-bucket quantity is a practical size if you have several repairs to carry out. For a single repair, our single 25KG PPR bucket and single SCJ can are available separately.

How to Apply UltraCrete PPR and SCJ Seal & Tack Coat

UltraCrete PPR is supplied ready to use — no mixing required. SCJ is applied first to seal the pothole edges and substrate before PPR is placed. Pothole repairs can be achieved at depths from 10mm to 100mm in a single pass, or greater depths using the layer-on-layer method. Always follow the manufacturer's guidance and relevant specification for your application.

  1. Clear the pothole of loose material, debris and standing water.
  2. Where appropriate, cut a neat picture frame around the repair area using a circular saw with a diamond blade to create straight, clean vertical edges.
  3. Apply SCJ Seal & Tack Coat spray to all vertical faces and the substrate base, holding the can 175–250mm away and working from the top downwards in long strokes. Ensure the entire surface is covered.
  4. Place UltraCrete PPR slightly proud of the surrounding surface.
  5. Compact with a hand tamper or suitable mechanical alternative until level.
  6. The repaired area is instantly trafficable — no curing time required.
  7. For deeper repairs, repeat steps 3–5 using the layer-on-layer method, applying SCJ to the vertical faces between each layer.
  8. For a complete reinstatement system, apply Instaband ECO thermoplastic overbanding around the perimeter of the completed repair.

SCJ Handling Note

Hold the SCJ can tightly and shake vigorously before use. Immediately after use, point the nozzle upward and spray briefly to clear it — failure to do so can block the nozzle. Store aerosol cans away from direct sunlight and temperatures above 50°C.

PPR Handling Tips

If PPR appears firm — particularly in buckets from the bottom of a stack where weight above can compact the material — roll the inner bag inside the bucket with your knee. This reactivates the binder and quickly restores it to its normal consistency. In cold weather, storing buckets somewhere warm for 24 hours before use can also help considerably.

Potholes form when water enters cracks in tarmac or asphalt, freezes, and weakens the surface, which then breaks under traffic. Instarmac UltraCrete offers fast, durable solutions including Instant Road Repair (IRR 6mm & 10mm), Permanent Pothole Repair (PPR), and Tough Patch for high-traffic areas. SCJ Cold Joint Bitumen Spray prevents water ingress, and Instaband ECO Tape seals repairs. IRR and PPR are bitumen-based and cure after compaction, while Tough Patch is water-activated for rapid curing, providing long-lasting repairs for roads, footpaths, driveways, and carriageways.
