Compatibility, storage and safety
For natural stone including suitable limestone, sandstone, Indian Stone, Yorkstone, travertine and marble, plus granite setts, clay, concrete and porcelain with joints from 5mm. Colour pairing does not guarantee surface compatibility. Trial porous or sensitive stone, especially dark limestone, with the proposed protection and clean-down method. A pre-sealer cannot guarantee against every staining or oxidation risk.
Contains cement. Wear gloves and eye protection; wet cement can cause serious burns. Avoid prolonged skin contact, wash exposed skin and keep away from children. Do not use beyond the declared storage period, which can increase allergic-reaction risk. Safety Data Sheet available on request.

Mixing and applying Premium Standard Limestone
This pallet contains 56 individual 25kg bags. Organise manageable sections and mix small batches rather than increasing batch size because you have more material. Plan a safe waste collection area. Never push surplus slurry into drains: it will set and cause a permanent blockage.
1. Preparation
Check that the paving is on a suitable cured, rigid impermeable bed with drainage falls. Remove dust, loose material and debris from joints. Check joints are 5–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep.
Without a temporary pre-sealer: thoroughly pre-soak the paving and joints, then remove all standing water with a leaf blower or suitable method. Keep the surface damp, not waterlogged, using a gentle mist as you work.
With a temporary pre-sealer: trial a compatible product such as Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout. Follow its preparation, drying and water-use instructions. Clear standing water from joints. A sealer helps create a protective barrier but cannot guarantee against every staining or oxidation risk.
2. Mixing
- Measure 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag into a clean mixing vessel.
- Gradually add powder and paddle-mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth and lump-free.
- Apply promptly in small batches, following the current bag's working-time instructions. Initial set is not usable working time.
- Never store liquid mortar, retemper or add extra water once mixed.
3. Application and clean-down
- Pour onto the paving and work into joints with a neoprene squeegee & 3 section pole.
- Work across the joints repeatedly and top up any that settle.
- Remove as much excess mortar from the surface as possible. Maintain surface conditions appropriate to the preparation method; do not let slurry dry onto the paving.
- Check joint firmness with the thumb test before washing. Do not wash out soft joints.
- Once firm, brush and wash thoroughly using plenty of clean water. Remove all surface residue and wash tools frequently.
4. Trafficking and precautions
At 20°C, allow approximately 1 hour for foot traffic and 4 hours for vehicles. Cool conditions slow setting; warmth accelerates it. Avoid direct sunlight, temperatures below 3°C and frost expected within 24 hours. Light rain is acceptable provided standing water is removed.
Some site-batched bedding materials can leach colour into grout. Choose the bedding carefully and ask us if unsure. Wear gloves, eye protection and suitable PPE; wet cement can cause serious burns. Store unopened bags cool, dry and frost-free; shelf life is 8 months from manufacture.

Flowpoint Premium Standard Limestone paving grout: full pallet of 56 x 25kg bags
UltraScape Flowpoint Premium Standard Limestone is a rapid-set slurry jointing mortar that we particularly recommend for natural stone paving and granite setts. Its highly fluid consistency helps fill joints to create a rigid, bound, void-free finish, while early trafficking helps you get paved areas back into use sooner. The light, warm Limestone colour suits pale sandstone and cream or buff paving where a cooler grey joint would give more contrast. It is also suitable for concrete flags and clay pavers on an appropriate rigid construction.
Supplied as a full pallet of 56 x 25kg bags, it gives you 1,400kg of grout for larger paving jobs. Ordering a full pallet means you can get the grout you need delivered together and have bags ready as the job moves along, rather than having to order more halfway through. It's a handy option for bigger natural stone paving and granite sett jobs, from courtyards and pathways to town-centre paving and carriageways.
Flowpoint Premium Standard conforms to BS 7533 and suits joints 5–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep. Initial set is approximately 30 minutes at 20°C, with light foot traffic after approximately 1 hour. It is non-permeable and needs a suitable rigid, impermeable bed with adequate drainage falls.
We're a small, family-run business. I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in construction working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a knowledgeable, caring team. We know that a grout colour can change how a whole paved area looks, so we're happy to help you compare options before ordering a pallet.
Why choose Limestone?
Limestone is a light, warm tone suited to pale natural stone and rustic paving. It works particularly well alongside cream Indian sandstone, Cotswold limestone, Bath Stone and similar cream or buff paving, where a cool grey joint can create more contrast than you want. It is a colour choice within the Premium range, not an instruction that it can only be used with limestone.
For a contemporary grey, consider Premium Stone Grey. For a golden-buff pairing with Yorkstone flags or warm sandstone, consider Premium Yorkstone. Standard Natural Grey and Charcoal remain options when a grey or darker contrast is the aim. Check samples beside the actual paving; screens cannot reliably show every shade and texture.
Matching Limestone grout to natural stone
| Stone | Typical tone | Colour consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Cotswold limestone | Warm cream or honey | A warm, sympathetic joint |
| French limestone | Cream, ivory or beige | Useful with lighter finishes |
| Bath Stone | Warm cream or honey | A softer alternative to grey |
| Portland Stone | Very pale cream | Check a sample for the contrast you prefer |
| Jura limestone | Beige or light grey | Compare Limestone with Stone Grey |
| Yorkstone | Buff, beige or light grey | Compare with the warmer Yorkstone grout colour |
| Cream Indian sandstone | Cream or buff | A warm, rustic pairing |
| Raj Blend sandstone | Buff, beige and soft grey | Check against the range of colours in the pack |
| Travertine | Cream, ivory or beige | Trial the surface and proposed protection method |
| Botticino marble | Pale cream or beige | Colour guide only; compatibility trial essential |
| Crema Marfil marble | Warm cream or beige | Colour guide only; trial the complete process |
| Tandur limestone | Buff, yellow or green-grey | Compare a sample with the actual stone |
This is a colour guide, not a blanket guarantee of suitability for every finish of these stones. Surface sensitivity, porosity and preparation matter just as much as the colour. Send us a photo if you'd like help narrowing the choices.
Benefits for larger paving projects
- A warm Limestone colour for pale natural stone without the stronger contrast of Charcoal or a cooler grey.
- Flowable slurry application for filling joints across the paved area rather than pointing each joint individually.
- Shrinkage-compensated cementitious joints with a strong bond.
- Rapid initial set, typically 15–30 minutes at 20°C, with foot traffic after about 1 hour and vehicles after 4 hours.
- BS 7533 compliant and NBS Source registered.
- Expected service life up to 40 years with correct installation and suitable conditions.
- 56 separate 25kg bags for planned batches and phased work, not one oversized mix.
Suitable uses include larger natural stone patios, granite sett projects, clay paving, concrete flags and suitable porcelain with joints from 5mm. Town-centre pedestrian schemes, pathways, commercial paving and driveways need a complete construction appropriate to their traffic, not just the correct grout.
Coverage: calculate the joints, not just the paving area
| Paving | One 25kg bag, approximate | 56 bags, indicative only |
|---|---|---|
| Natural stone mixed packs | 12–20m² | 672–1,120m² |
| Granite setts | 1.5–2m² | 84–112m² |
The pallet figures simply multiply the bag guidance by 56. They are not guaranteed yields. Small setts have far more joint space than large slabs, and wider or deeper joints use more grout. Enter your actual paving dimensions and joint sizes in the calculator, with a sensible allowance for wastage.
Calculator bag quantities mean individual 25kg bags, not pallets. Divide by 56 and round up if buying full pallets. A requirement of 60 bags can be covered by one pallet and four single Limestone bags, rather than automatically buying two pallets.
Premium Standard versus Smooth, Fine and Porcelpoint
| Grade | Colours | Joint width | Joint depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flowpoint Standard | Natural Grey, Charcoal | 5–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Premium Standard, this product | Limestone, Stone Grey, Yorkstone | 5–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Flowpoint ECO | Natural Grey, Charcoal | 5–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Flowpoint Smooth | Natural Grey, Charcoal | 3–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Premium Smooth | Limestone, Stone Grey, Yorkstone | 3–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Flowpoint Fine | Natural Grey, Charcoal | 2–50mm | 20–200mm |
| Porcelpoint | Limestone, Stone Grey | 2–50mm | 20–200mm |
This pallet is Premium Standard, for joints from 5mm. For narrower Limestone joints from 3mm, choose Premium Smooth Limestone. For a fine finish without visible aggregate, look at Porcelpoint Limestone, available from 2mm. Do not assume these grades have an identical finish.
Porous stone, dark limestone and pre-sealers
Light stone can show surface residue, while some darker limestone can be sensitive to cementitious grout and oxidation. A compatible temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout can create a protective barrier and make clean-down easier. It cannot guarantee against every staining or oxidation problem.
Trial the stone, chosen protection, grout and clean-down together before the full area. Follow the pre-sealer's instructions, including drying and water-use requirements. Limestone grout also creates a much lighter contrast on black limestone or dark slate, so check the appearance as well as compatibility. If you want help, get in touch; a call is optional, not a substitute for a site trial.
How to use Premium Standard Limestone
- Check the paving is laid on a suitable cured rigid bed with adequate falls. Clear joints of debris and check their width and depth.
- Without a pre-sealer, thoroughly pre-soak the paving and joints, then remove all standing water and keep the surface damp. With a compatible temporary pre-sealer, trial first and follow its preparation, drying and water-use instructions.
- Measure 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag. Add powder gradually and paddle-mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth.
- Apply promptly in small batches, following the current bag's working-time instructions. Initial set is not usable working time. Never retemper or add water once mixed.
- Work slurry fully into joints with a neoprene squeegee & 3 section pole bundle. Top up any settling joints and remove surface excess.
- Use the thumb test to check the joint is firm before washing. Brush and wash thoroughly with plenty of clean water so no mortar remains on the paving.
Never put waste slurry into drains, where it can set and block them. Wear gloves, eye protection and appropriate PPE; wet cement can cause serious burns. Avoid direct sunlight, temperatures below 3°C or frost expected within 24 hours.
Advice from contractors
“Some landscapers are stuck in their ways and they don't like change. Their attitude is, 'I've been doing this for 20 years… Why should I change now?' And some are quite rightly scared when they consider pouring Flowpoint onto their slabs, at the end of the day, you are pouring a cementitious slurry directly onto the pavers. It goes against everything that you've been taught. But Flowpoint has been developed so it doesn't stick to the paving.”
“Flowpoint is just so easy and quick to install that it makes you money. It's a well-priced product and, in my view, a landscaper's friend. Ultimately, it means less time on the job and more profit in your pocket.”
Gareth Wilson, hard landscaping expert and RHS award winner.
“Flowpoint is our go-to product when it comes to jointing all our paving. I love how it gives me confidence that the products will stand the test of time, allowing homeowners to enjoy their garden for years to come.”
Jordan Clayton, owner of Next Level Landscapes Ltd. Courtesy of Instarmac Group Plc.
Common misconceptions
| Concern | What matters on site |
|---|---|
| Flowpoint is new and unproven | The range has a long track record in public-realm, commercial and domestic paving. Premium adds colour options. |
| Specialist equipment makes it complicated | A paddle mixer and long-handled neoprene squeegee are the main additions to normal paving equipment. |
| It sets instantly on paving | It is rapid-setting, not instant. Preparation, manageable sections and clean-down timing are essential. |
| Low joints and cracking are unavoidable | Washing too early can remove material. Check joint firmness with the thumb test. |
| Efflorescence cannot happen | Bedding, excess water and site conditions can contribute to deposits or colour variation. |
| Every bed must wait exactly 28 days | Follow the bedding product's curing requirements and actual site conditions, not one fixed rule. |
Frequently asked questions
I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts. These answers cover the questions our team is asked about pale-stone colour matching, application and larger orders.
What is Flowpoint Premium Standard?
A rapid-setting, high-fluidity cementitious paving jointing mortar with premium Limestone, Stone Grey and Yorkstone colours. It creates rigid, bound, void-free joints within the stated dimensions.
What is it used for?
Suitable natural stone, concrete flags, clay paving, granite setts and porcelain on appropriate rigid construction. Applications include patios, pathways, courtyards, commercial schemes and suitably constructed driveways.
Which colours are available?
Premium Standard comes in Limestone, Stone Grey and Yorkstone. Ordinary Flowpoint Standard is available in Natural Grey and Charcoal.
Is Premium Standard different from ordinary Standard?
The premium colour palette is the key distinction for this choice. Both grades start at 5mm wide joints. Do not confuse Premium Standard with Premium Smooth, which starts at 3mm.
How does Limestone compare with Natural Grey?
Limestone is lighter and warmer, often a better pairing with pale cream stone and rustic Indian sandstone. Natural Grey gives a cooler grey joint.
How does Stone Grey compare with Natural Grey or Charcoal?
Stone Grey is a premium contemporary grey suited to mixed light/dark natural stone and grey schemes. Natural Grey is the ordinary Standard grey, while Charcoal is darker and gives a stronger contrast.
Which colour is best for Indian sandstone?
Limestone often suits pale, warm and rustic sandstone. Yorkstone can suit golden-buff paving; Stone Grey works well with silver/grey stone. Compare a sample with the actual mix of stones in your pack.
Is it suitable for natural stone and BS 7533 work?
Yes, Premium Standard is BS 7533 compliant and suitable for appropriate natural stone paving construction. Sensitive stone still needs a compatibility trial.
What joint sizes can I use?
Premium Standard: 5–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep. Premium Smooth: 3–50mm wide with the same stated depth range. Do not use this Standard pallet for a 3mm porcelain joint.
Is there a fine Limestone finish without visible aggregate?
Yes. Porcelpoint Limestone is the fine, aggregate-free option in this colour, for joints from 2mm. It is a different product from this Standard pallet.
How quickly does it set?
Initial set is typically 15–30 minutes at 20°C, with foot traffic after about 1 hour and vehicles after 4 hours. Warm weather speeds setting and cold weather slows it. Follow the current bag's working-time directions and check joint firmness before washing.
Can I use it on a driveway?
Yes, with a complete paving construction suitable for vehicular traffic and the correct joint dimensions. The grout alone does not determine the paving's load capacity.
Do I just mix it with water?
Yes. Add 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag and paddle-mix for 3–5 minutes. Work in small batches and do not add water once mixed.
Why choose Limestone for pale paving?
It offers a warm, lighter joint where Natural Grey may look too cool and Charcoal too dark. That can help cream and buff paving feel more visually consistent.
Can I use it on black limestone or slate?
These surfaces need a trial with compatible protection and the proposed application method. A temporary pre-sealer can help with surface protection but cannot guarantee against every staining or oxidation risk. Check the strong light/dark colour contrast too.
How long can it last?
Expected service life can be up to 40 years with correct installation and suitable site conditions. Preparation, bedding and drainage are part of achieving that result.
Can it be used in rain?
Light rain is acceptable, provided standing water is cleared from joints and the weather does not flood the work or prevent clean-down.
Should I pre-seal?
A compatible temporary pre-sealer can help on porous or sensitive paving. Follow its instructions and trial first. Without a sealer, thoroughly pre-soak, clear standing water and keep the surface damp while working.
Is it permeable?
No. It forms a non-permeable rigid joint and needs appropriate impermeable construction and drainage falls.
What is the shelf life for a phased project?
Eight months from manufacture in unopened sealed bags stored cool, dry and frost-free. Check dates before reserving bags for a later phase, protect the pallet from rain and ground moisture and check batch identification and colour consistency before starting. Use beyond the declared storage period can increase allergic-reaction risk.
How many pallets do I need?
Use actual paving and joint dimensions in the calculator, then divide its bag estimate by 56. Single bags can cover smaller shortfalls. Contact us if you want a second check of the quantity.
What does delivery include?
Free standard 3–5 working day delivery to England, Wales and the main areas of Scotland. Some Scottish delivery areas may carry an extra charge; we will contact you if applicable. Tell us about restricted access before ordering. Smaller-lorry delivery may cost extra.
Application demonstrations and further advice
Some Flowpoint application demonstrations use Fine rather than Premium Standard. Always use the mixing water and joint limits for the actual product on the bag; a demonstration is not a substitute for those instructions.

See our Flowpoint FAQs or download the technical datasheet. For help with colour matching, the wider bedding and primer system, quantities or delivery access, get in touch or call 0330 122 1025. We're happy to talk the project through.

See our Flowpoint FAQs or download the technical datasheet. For help with colour matching, the wider bedding and primer system, quantities or delivery access, get in touch or call 0330 122 1025. We're happy to talk the project through.
