Rapid-Set Flowable Paving Grout for Porcelain, Granite Setts & Darker Natural Stone — Joints from 3mm — Full Pallet, 56 Bags, Free Delivery

If you're ordering a full pallet of UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal, you already know what you're doing — this is the grade landscaping contractors, porcelain installers and public realm specifiers reach for when they need reliable, rapid results on smooth or polished surfaces with a bold, contemporary charcoal finish. Whether you're jointing charcoal porcelain across a large patio, a commercial courtyard or a granite sett scheme with tight 3mm joints, 56 bags gives you the volume to work efficiently without interruption. Free standard delivery included.

BS 7533 compliant, sets in 15 minutes at 20°C, joints from 3–50mm wide and 20–200mm deep, open to vehicles in 4 hours, 49.6N/mm² compressive strength, supplied in 25kg showerproof bags on a shrinkwrapped pallet — Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal is a professional-strength flowable paving grout built for the demands of large-scale work on porcelain, granite setts and tight-jointed darker natural stone.

We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring people, and between us we've specified and supplied Flowpoint Smooth on everything from domestic porcelain patios to major public realm schemes. At pallet quantities it's almost always landscaping contractors or serious self-builders — and Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal is a product we'd back completely for both.

Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal is the grade we'd confidently recommend for charcoal or grey porcelain, granite setts, slate, darker sandstone and Indian Stone — anywhere joints are as narrow as 3mm and a bold, seamless, void-free finish matters. For darker limestones, use a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep before grouting. Unsure? Read our black limestone guide or give us a call.

UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal is a fast-curing, flowable, cement-based paving grout with a finer aggregate finish, designed for joints from just 3mm. Mixed with water on site, poured across the paving surface and worked into joints with a neoprene squeegee, it sets to leave strong, durable, weed-resistant, void-free joints. A full pallet of 56 bags covers substantial areas and is delivered free to your site on a shrinkwrapped pallet.

What Do Industry Experts Say About Flowpoint?

Flowpoint Smooth has been trusted on demanding projects for over 20 years. We asked Gareth Wilson, one of the UK's most respected hard landscaping experts, for his view.

Gareth has 30 years in the landscaping trade, 30 Royal Horticultural Show (RHS) awards for show garden construction, and now works as an expert witness in hard landscaping:

GARETH WILSON — Hard Landscaping Expert & RHS Award Winner
"Some landscapers are stuck in their ways and they don't like change. Their attitude is, 'I've been doing this for 20 years… Why should I change now?' And some are quite rightly scared when they consider pouring Flowpoint onto their slabs — at the end of the day, you are pouring a cementitious slurry directly onto the pavers. It goes against everything that you've been taught. But Flowpoint has been developed so it doesn't stick to the paving.

"In addition to its British Standard rating and the strength of the product, it's also the speed at which you can install it. If you're going to be on your hands and knees with a trowel and a three-to-one mortar mix, it will take you about five times as long to install, compared with using Flowpoint. Flowpoint is just so easy and quick to install that it makes you money. It's a well-priced product and, in my view, a landscaper's friend. Ultimately, it means less time on the job and more profit in your pocket."

Approved for Use on the London Underground & Overground

Flowpoint Smooth is approved for use on the London Underground and London Overground and is NBS Source registered — making it a natural choice for architects, specifiers and contractors working on public realm and commercial projects at any scale.

Common Flowpoint Myths — Busted

Myth The Truth
Myth #1: Flowpoint is a new product Flowpoint has been in use for over 25 years. Flowpoint Smooth itself has been in use for over 20 years, specified on thousands of projects worldwide.
Myth #2: You need specialist equipment A paddle mixer and a long-handled neoprene squeegee are all you need beyond standard paving tools.
Myth #3: It's only for experienced contractors Straightforward once you've seen it done. Watch a demonstration, follow the instructions, and do a trial area first.
Myth #4: Flowpoint sticks permanently to pavers Keep the surface damp and time your work around the weather. In warm conditions, work during cooler parts of the day.
Myth #5: It causes cracking and low spots Cracking typically happens when grout is washed off too early. Use the thumb test — if the joint still feels soft, wait longer.
Myth #6: It works with every stone type Flowpoint Smooth works with most paving materials. The exception is black limestone without a temporary pre-sealer, which risks oxidisation.
Myth #7: Flowpoint causes efflorescence Efflorescence is not a product fault — usually caused by insufficient bed drying time, excess water in the mix, or pressure-washing too early.
Myth #8: The paving must be kept soaking wet Damp, not saturated. Remove standing water before grouting, then mist the surface throughout.
Myth #9: Slabs must cure for 28 days first The key is a solid, set, dry bed — not a fixed number of days. The manufacturer recommends 21–28 days, but contractors often grout sooner when conditions allow.

Frequently Asked Questions — UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal (56 Bag Full Pallet)

I'm Cleo, owner of The Paving Experts, with over 25 years in the construction industry working with businesses including Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a small team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals who share the same passion for getting it right. The FAQ answers below come from the questions we're asked every single day.

1. What is UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth?

UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth is a rapid-set, flowable paving grout designed specifically for smooth paving stones and slabs. It produces a seamless, void-free joint that conforms to the requirements of BS 7533. Pre-mixed and supplied in 25kg showerproof bags, it requires only the addition of water on site.

2. What is Flowpoint Smooth used for?

From domestic patios and driveways to town centre pedestrian schemes, pathways and carriageways. Suitable for natural stone, concrete flags and clay pavers, and particularly well suited to smooth or polished surfaces where a seamless, void-free finish is required.

3. What is Flowpoint Smooth and how is it different from Flowpoint Standard?

Flowpoint Smooth is engineered for smooth paving stones and slabs where joints can be as narrow as 3mm — two millimetres tighter than Flowpoint Standard (5mm minimum). Its high fluid consistency produces a seamless, void-free joint particularly suited to smooth or polished surfaces. Compressive strength, application method, water ratio and trafficking times are identical to Standard.

4. Why choose Charcoal over Natural Grey?

Charcoal creates a bolder, more defined joint that works particularly well with charcoal or grey porcelain, granite setts, slate and darker natural stones. It gives a contemporary, high-contrast finish. Unsure? Send us a photo and we'll advise.

5. What joint widths can Flowpoint Smooth be used for?

Flowpoint Smooth handles joints from 3mm to 50mm wide and 20mm to 200mm deep. For joints narrower than 3mm, consider Flowpoint Fine (from 2mm) or Porcelpoint (from 2mm). Give us a call if you're unsure.

6. What is the set time for Flowpoint Smooth?

Initial set in 15 minutes at 20°C. Colder conditions extend the set, warmer ones shorten it. Always use the thumb test before cleaning down.

7. How long before you can walk on Flowpoint Smooth?

Light foot traffic is possible after approximately 1 hour. In colder conditions allow a little longer.

8. How long before vehicles can drive over Flowpoint Smooth?

Vehicular traffic after approximately 4 hours. Ideal for driveways and carriageway schemes where downtime needs to be kept to a minimum.

9. Is UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth BS 7533 compliant?

Yes — Flowpoint Smooth conforms to and exceeds BS 7533. It is NBS Source registered and approved for use on the London Underground and Overground.

10. Can Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal be used on porcelain paving?

Yes — particularly well suited to charcoal or grey porcelain where joints are 3mm or wider. We also strongly recommend a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent grout haze on polished surfaces.

11. Can Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal be used on natural stone paving?

Yes — granite setts, slate, darker sandstone, Indian Stone and Yorkstone. Always carry out a small trial first. For darker limestones, apply Tile Rite Patio Prep to prevent oxidisation.

12. Can Flowpoint Smooth be used on concrete paving?

Yes — suitable for concrete flags. Creates a strong, non-permeable, weed-resistant joint.

13. Can Flowpoint Smooth be used on clay pavers?

Yes — ensure the paving is thoroughly pre-soaked before application on any absorbent surface.

14. Is Flowpoint Smooth suitable for driveways and high-traffic areas?

Yes — with 49.6N/mm² compressive strength and vehicular trafficking possible after 4 hours, well suited to driveways, commercial car parks and carriageway schemes.

15. Is Flowpoint Smooth suitable for large paving areas?

Absolutely — large-scale application is one of Flowpoint Smooth's core strengths. A full pallet of 56 bags gives contractors the volume to work a substantial area in a single session without interruption.

16. How do you apply Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal?

Pre-soak the paving and remove all ponded water. Add 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag and mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth and lump-free. Pour onto the paving and work into joints using a neoprene squeegee. Keep the surface misted throughout. Once initial set is reached, clean down with a brush and plenty of clean water. Mix only what you can place in approximately 4 minutes.

17. How much water do you add to a 25kg bag of Flowpoint Smooth?

Exactly 4.25 litres of clean water per bag. Mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth and pourable. Never add more water or remix a batch that has begun to go off.

18. Is Flowpoint Smooth easy to mix?

Yes — supplied as a pre-mixed dry-pack. Add water, mix for 3–5 minutes with a slow-speed drill and paddle mixer. No specialist equipment required.

19. What colours does Flowpoint Smooth come in?

Charcoal (this pallet) and Natural Grey (56-bag pallet here). For Stone Grey, Limestone and Yorkstone, see the Flowpoint Premium Smooth range.

20. Can Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal be used on black limestone?

Yes, with the right preparation. Apply a temporary pre-sealer such as Tile Rite Patio Prep before grouting to prevent oxidisation. Call us if you'd like advice on your specific stone.

21. Can Flowpoint Smooth be used in the rain?

Yes — in light rain. Ensure joints are clear of ponded water before starting. Do not apply during heavy rain or when frost is forecast within 24 hours.

22. Is Flowpoint Smooth permeable?

No — non-permeable cementitious grout. Must be used on a solid, non-permeable bed. If you need a permeable solution, contact us.

23. Do I need to pre-seal my slabs before using Flowpoint Smooth?

With a temporary pre-sealer (such as Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout): do not pre-soak — the sealer replaces this step.
Without a sealer: thoroughly wet the paving, then remove all standing water. The surface should be damp, not waterlogged.

24. What is the shelf life of Flowpoint Smooth?

8 months from date of manufacture, printed on the white strip on the side of each bag. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free environment, clear of the ground.

25. How long does Flowpoint Smooth last?

When applied correctly on a properly prepared bed, Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal can last up to 40 years without the need to re-grout.

26. How much Flowpoint Smooth do I need?

A full pallet of 56 bags covers approximately 670–900m² for natural stone mixed packs, or around 84–112m² for granite setts. Use the Flowpoint Calculator on this page for a precise estimate, or call us and we'll work it out with you.

27. What are the delivery terms for this pallet deal?

Free standard delivery (3–5 working days) to most addresses in England and Wales. A small surcharge applies for Scotland. Important: free delivery requires site access for a 26-tonne articulated vehicle. If your site cannot accommodate a vehicle of this size, the pallet may need to be transferred to a smaller lorry at additional cost. Next-day delivery is available on request but subject to an extra charge. If you have access restrictions or need to discuss delivery, get in touch or call us on 0330 122 1025 before ordering.

28. How do I tell the Flowpoint grades apart on delivery?

The bag colour tells you the grade. Flowpoint Smooth bags are orange and blue. Standard is black and orange; ECO is orange and green; Fine comes in tubs. The specific colour variant (Natural Grey or Charcoal) is printed on the white strip on the side of the bag.

Watch the video...

Please note: The videos below show Flowpoint Fine being applied. The mixing and application principles are identical for Flowpoint Smooth — the only difference is the water ratio. Flowpoint Fine and Porcelpoint require 3.4 litres per 20kg bucket; Flowpoint Standard, Smooth, ECO and Premium require 4.25 litres per 25kg bag.

Initial set in 15 minutes at 20°C. Colder conditions extend the set, warmer ones shorten it. Always use the thumb test before cleaning down.

Light foot traffic is possible after approximately 1 hour. In colder conditions allow a little longer.

8. How long before vehicles can drive over Flowpoint Smooth?

10. Can Flowpoint Smooth Charcoal be used on porcelain paving?

How to Mix & Apply UltraScape Flowpoint Smooth Paving Grout

Step 1 — Preparation

Without a temporary pre-sealer (standard method):

  1. Ensure joints are clean and free from debris, dust and loose material.
  2. Thoroughly pre-soak the paving surface and joints — the paving must be properly wet before you begin.
  3. Remove all standing or ponded water from the surface and joints — a leaf blower is ideal. The paving should be damp, not waterlogged.
  4. Keep the surface moist throughout application by misting with a soft spray of water.

With a temporary pre-grout sealer (e.g. Tile Rite Patio Prep or Nexus ProJoint Pre-Grout):

  1. Apply the temporary sealer and allow to dry per product instructions.
  2. Do not pre-soak the paving. The sealer acts as the protective barrier — water not required until clean-down.
  3. Remove standing water from joints with a leaf blower before grouting.
  4. Always carry out a small trial area first.

Step 2 — Mixing

  1. Add 4.25 litres of clean water per 25kg bag into a clean vessel.
  2. Add Flowpoint Smooth powder to the water and mix for 3–5 minutes until smooth, lump-free and pourable. Use a slow-speed drill and paddle mixer.
  3. Only mix what you can apply in approximately 4 minutes.
  4. Never remix or add extra water once mixed.

Step 3 — Application

  1. Pour the mixed grout onto the paving surface.
  2. Using a neoprene squeegee, force the mortar into the joints, working methodically. Top up any joints where mortar has slumped.
  3. Remove as much excess mortar from the surface as you go.
  4. If not using a pre-sealer, keep the surface constantly misted throughout application.
  5. Once initial set is reached, clean down thoroughly with a brush and copious clean water. No mortar must remain on the surface.
  6. Wash all tools frequently.

Step 4 — Trafficking

  • Foot traffic: after 1 hour (at 20°C)
  • Vehicular traffic: after 4 hours (at 20°C)
  • Cool temperatures retard set; warm temperatures accelerate it. Avoid applying in direct sunlight or during frost.

Flowpoint paving grout from Ultrascape is a rapid-set, cement-based grout for natural stone, porcelain slabs, concrete flags, and granite setts. Its flowable consistency fills joints completely, creating a strong, durable finish lasting 30–40 years. BS 7533 compliant, Flowpoint is suitable for domestic and commercial paving and comes in specialist grades—Standard, Smooth, Fine, Eco, Premium, Premium Smooth, and Porcelpoint—designed for different joint widths, depths, and finishes. For best results, pre-seal slabs with a temporary pre-grout sealer to prevent staining and efflorescence. Mix to a smooth, pourable consistency, apply while surfaces are damp using a squeegee, and clean once touch-dry (15–30 minutes) with a Berta Sponge Machine or Pedalo. Flowpoint supports joint widths from 2–50 mm and depths of 20–200 mm, providing a durable, stain-resistant, professional finish for patios, driveways, and commercial paving.
