About the product

Flowpoint Fine Charcoal — Part Pallet Deal: 20 x 20KG Tubs

'All the Performance of a Full Pallet — Half the Quantity. Joints from 2mm, No Visible Aggregate, Sets in 15 Minutes.'

Need Flowpoint Fine Charcoal but not quite a full pallet? This 20 x 20KG part pallet deal gives you the same professional-grade product at a better rate than buying single tubs — ideal for medium-sized projects or where storage space is a consideration. For larger projects or maximum value, see our full pallet deal (40 x 20KG, free delivery).

Flowpoint Fine is the most specialist grade in the Flowpoint range. Unlike Standard, Smooth or ECO — all of which have a visible aggregate finish — Flowpoint Fine has no visible aggregate at all. The result is a super-smooth, tile-like joint in bold charcoal, particularly well suited to charcoal and grey porcelain, granite setts, slate and darker natural stone. Joints from just 2mm. Sets in 15 minutes at 20°C. Open to vehicles in 4 hours. Lasts up to 40 years.

We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry, having worked with businesses such as Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals. When contractors switch to Flowpoint Fine, they rarely go back.

What Contractors Say

"Our recent order for Flowpoint Fine and squeegees was handled very professionally, despatched and delivered on time, great company to deal with."
— Phil & Claire, Designscape, Staffs (May 2024)

"Be patient and hold your nerve so you don't wash the product off too soon. Too many contractors start washing off when the product starts to dry on the slabs. You need to keep the slabs damp with a mist of water. Always make sure Flowpoint Fine is set in the joint before washing it off — just a little thumb test. Once firm, then begin washing off."
— Gareth Wilson, Hard Landscaping Expert & RHS Award Winner

Common Flowpoint Myths — Busted

Myth The Truth
Flowpoint Fine is just Smooth with a different name Different formulation, different water ratio (3.4L per 20kg vs 4.25L per 25kg), 2mm minimum joint vs 3mm, tile-like finish Smooth cannot replicate.
Flowpoint sticks to pavers It doesn't set instantly. Keep the area damp and plan around the weather, particularly in hot conditions.
Flowpoint causes cracking and low spots This happens when Flowpoint is washed off too early. Use the thumb test — if grout is still bleeding from the joint, wait.
Flowpoint requires specialist equipment A 110v paddle mixer and a long-handled neoprene squeegee are all you need beyond standard paving tools.
Slabs must sit for 28 days before grouting The key is ensuring the bedding mortar has cured with no visible dampness. Always follow manufacturer guidance.
Flowpoint causes efflorescence When applied correctly, it should not. Problems are more likely when the bed hasn't dried or too much water is used in the mix.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is UltraScape Flowpoint Fine?

A rapid-set slurry jointing mortar with high-fluid consistency for rigid, bound, void-free joints. Joints from 2–50mm, sets in 15 minutes at 20°C, no visible aggregate, BS 7533 compliant, lasts up to 40 years.

What size joints can it be used for?

2mm to 50mm wide, 20–200mm deep in a single application. The 2mm minimum makes it the go-to for tight-jointed porcelain.

Can it be used on porcelain?

Yes — designed for it. Flows into joints from 2mm without bridging. Use Tile Rite Patio Prep to protect porcelain against grout haze.

How quickly does it set?

15 minutes at 20°C. In hot weather, work in the cooler part of the day. Always thumb test before washing off.

How long before vehicles can use the area?

4 hours at 20°C. Foot traffic after 1 hour.

How much water do I add?

3.4 litres per 20KG tub — not the 4.25L used by other Flowpoint grades. Critical: wrong ratio affects finish and strength.

How do I know when to wash off?

Thumb test — joint feels firm, no bleed. Keep slabs damp with a light mist. Washing too early is the most common mistake on Flowpoint Fine.

Can it be used on granite setts?

Yes — cleaner, more defined finish than aggregate grades. Coverage approx. 1.5–2m² per tub on setts.

Can it be used on black limestone?

With a temporary pre-sealer (e.g. Tile Rite Patio Prep), yes. Without one, oxidisation can occur. Call us if unsure.

Is it permeable?

No — non-permeable cementitious grout. Must be applied on a solid, non-permeable bed.

Can it be used in the rain?

Yes — light rain is fine. Clear standing water from joints first.

Do I need to pre-seal before grouting?

With a pre-sealer: apply in advance, skip the water pre-soak.
Without a sealer: wet paving thoroughly, remove all standing water. Damp, not waterlogged.

What's the shelf life?

8 months from manufacture (printed on tub), stored sealed in cool, dry, frost-free conditions between 5°C and 30°C.

How much do I need per m²?

Approx. 11–12m² per tub (natural stone); 30–40m² (large-format porcelain, 3mm joints); 1.5–2m² (granite setts). Use the calculator on the single tub page for a precise figure.

Why is Flowpoint Fine in a tub, not a bag?

The 20KG tub format is specific to Flowpoint Fine — all other grades come in 25KG bags. Supplied as a bag inside the tub — check the inner bag colour matches the lid before use.

How to Mix and Apply UltraScape Flowpoint Fine Paving Grout

  1. Ensure you have a suitable area (such as lifted turf) to push excess slurry grout into. Do not wash excess Flowpoint into drains as it is rapid-setting and may cause permanent blockages.
  2. Make sure paving slabs and joints are clean, free from dirt, debris and standing water. If necessary, use a leaf blower to remove pooled water.
  3. Pre-wet the paving slabs and joints so they are damp but not saturated.
  4. Add 3.4 litres of clean water to a mixing bucket, then pour in the bag of Flowpoint Fine Paving Grout.
  5. Mix using a paddle mixer (recommended) or by hand for 3–5 minutes until you achieve a smooth, lump-free, flowable consistency.
  6. Check the slabs remain damp and lightly mist if needed. Apply the grout immediately, pushing Flowpoint firmly into the joints using a neoprene rubber squeegee.
  7. Monitor the temperature carefully. Flowpoint Fine begins to set within approximately 15 minutes at 20oC. Setting times will be faster in hot weather and slower in colder conditions. Note that paving slabs may be hotter than the air temperature.
  8. Work the grout diagonally across the paving surface to fully fill and top up joints where settlement may occur.
  9. Once joints are filled, use a rubber squeegee to remove excess grout from the slab surface. Keep the paving lightly misted with water to prevent residue hardening.
  10. Clean the surface using a brush and clean water, or alternatively a pedalo washboy, sponge machine or pressure washer to remove remaining residue.
  11. After approximately 30 minutes (carry out a finger or thumb test), begin final cleaning to remove mortar spots and prevent staining. Repeat rinsing with clean water as required.
  12. Once fully cleaned and dry, the patio is ready for foot traffic after 1 hour and vehicle traffic after 4 hours.
Flowpoint paving grout from Ultrascape is a rapid-set, cement-based grout for natural stone, porcelain slabs, concrete flags, and granite setts. Its flowable consistency fills joints completely, creating a strong, durable finish lasting 30–40 years. BS 7533 compliant, Flowpoint is suitable for domestic and commercial paving and comes in specialist grades—Standard, Smooth, Fine, Eco, Premium, Premium Smooth, and Porcelpoint—designed for different joint widths, depths, and finishes. For best results, pre-seal slabs with a temporary pre-grout sealer to prevent staining and efflorescence. Mix to a smooth, pourable consistency, apply while surfaces are damp using a squeegee, and clean once touch-dry (15–30 minutes) with a Berta Sponge Machine or Pedalo. Flowpoint supports joint widths from 2–50 mm and depths of 20–200 mm, providing a durable, stain-resistant, professional finish for patios, driveways, and commercial paving.
