How to Mix and Apply UltraScape Flowpoint Fine Paving Grout
UltraScape Flowpoint Fine is a fast-setting external slurry paving grout designed for porcelain, natural stone, concrete slabs, and clay pavers. Follow these step-by-step instructions to achieve strong, durable, and weed-resistant joints for patios, driveways, and commercial hard landscaping projects.
Preparation Before Mixing
- Prepare a safe area for excess grout: Ensure you have somewhere to push surplus slurry, such as lifted grass. Never push Flowpoint into drains – it is rapid-setting and will create a permanent blockage.
- Clean paving slabs and joints: Remove all dirt, debris, and pooled water. Use a leaf blower if necessary.
- Dampen slabs and joints: Spray lightly with water. Slabs should be damp, but not flooded.
Mixing Flowpoint Fine Paving Grout
- Measure water: Add 3.4 litres of clean water into a suitable mixing bucket.
- Add grout: Pour the full bag of Flowpoint Fine Paving Grout into the water.
- Mix thoroughly: Use a paddle mixer (recommended) or mix by hand for 3–5 minutes until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
Applying Flowpoint Fine
- Ensure slabs remain damp: Mist lightly if needed. Apply the mixture immediately, carefully pushing Flowpoint into the joints using a neoprene rubber squeegee.
- Monitor temperature: Flowpoint sets in approximately 15 minutes at 20°C. In hotter weather it sets faster; in cooler conditions it hardens more slowly. Be aware that slab surfaces can be hotter than air temperature.
- Top up joints: Move Flowpoint across the paving to fill any joints where the grout may have sunk.
- Remove excess grout: Use a rubber squeegee to remove as much surface grout as possible. Keep slabs misted with water to prevent premature hardening.
- Clean hardened grout from slabs: Use a brush and a little water, or alternatively a Pedalo Washboy, pressure washer, or sponge machine.
- Final cleaning: Once the mortar is dry (approx. 30 minutes), remove any remaining spots from the slabs to prevent staining. Repeat as necessary with clean water.
- Patio ready: Walk on the patio after 1 hour. Open to vehicles after 4 hours.
Tips for Best Results
- Work in small batches: Flowpoint is rapid-setting; mix only what can be applied immediately.
- Keep slabs damp: Prevent the grout from setting on the surface before it is properly worked into the joints.
- Use appropriate tools: Paddle mixer, rubber squeegee, brush, or Pedalo Washboy ensure smooth application and easy cleaning.
- Monitor joint firmness: Use the thumb test to check if the grout is set before cleaning excess from slabs.

Flowpoint Fine Natural Grey — Part Pallet Deal: 20 x 20KG Tubs
'All the Performance of a Full Pallet — Half the Quantity. Joints from 2mm, No Visible Aggregate, Sets in 15 Minutes.'
Need Flowpoint Fine Natural Grey but not quite a full pallet? This 20 x 20KG part pallet deal gives you the same professional-grade product at a better rate than buying single tubs — ideal for medium-sized projects or where storage space is a consideration. For larger projects or maximum value, see our full pallet deal (40 x 20KG, free delivery).
Flowpoint Fine is the most specialist grade in the Flowpoint range. Unlike Standard, Smooth or ECO — all of which have a visible aggregate finish — Flowpoint Fine has no visible aggregate at all. The result is a super-smooth, tile-like joint in clean, neutral Natural Grey, particularly well suited to porcelain, pale natural stone and inside-outside flooring schemes. Joints from just 2mm. Sets in 15 minutes at 20°C. Open to vehicles in 4 hours. Lasts up to 40 years.
We're a small, family-run business — I'm Cleo, the owner, with over 25 years in the construction industry, having worked with businesses such as Tarmac and Instarmac. I work alongside a team of incredibly knowledgeable and caring individuals. When contractors switch to Flowpoint Fine, they rarely go back.
What Contractors Say
"I've been using Flowpoint for a good few years now. It saves so much time compared to pointing by hand — I'd never go back. The finish you get with Flowpoint Fine on porcelain is second to none."
— Jordan Clayton, Landscaping Contractor
"Flowpoint is just so easy and quick to install that it makes you money. It's a well-priced product and, in my view, a landscaper's friend. Ultimately, it means less time on the job and more profit in your pocket."
— Gareth Wilson, Hard Landscaping Expert & RHS Award Winner (30 years in the trade, 30 RHS show garden awards)

Common Flowpoint Myths — Busted
| Myth | The Truth |
|---|---|
| Flowpoint Fine is just Smooth with a different name | Different formulation, different water ratio (3.4L per 20kg vs 4.25L per 25kg), 2mm minimum joint vs 3mm, tile-like finish Smooth cannot replicate. |
| Flowpoint sticks to pavers | It doesn't set instantly. Keep the area damp and plan around the weather, particularly in hot conditions. |
| Flowpoint causes cracking and low spots | This happens when Flowpoint is washed off too early. Use the thumb test — if grout is still bleeding from the joint, wait. |
| Flowpoint requires specialist equipment | A 110v paddle mixer and a long-handled neoprene squeegee are all you need beyond standard paving tools. |
| Slabs must sit for 28 days before grouting | The key is ensuring the bedding mortar has cured with no visible dampness. Always follow manufacturer guidance. |
| Flowpoint causes efflorescence | When applied correctly, it should not. Problems are more likely when the bed hasn't dried or too much water is used in the mix. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is UltraScape Flowpoint Fine?
A rapid-set slurry jointing mortar with high-fluid consistency for rigid, bound, void-free joints. Joints from 2–50mm, sets in 15 minutes at 20°C, no visible aggregate, BS 7533 compliant, lasts up to 40 years.
What size joints can it be used for?
2mm to 50mm wide, 20–200mm deep in a single application. The 2mm minimum makes it the go-to for tight-jointed porcelain.
Can it be used on porcelain?
Yes — designed for it. Flows into joints from 2mm without bridging. Use Tile Rite Patio Prep to protect porcelain against grout haze.
How quickly does it set?
15 minutes at 20°C. In hot weather, work in the cooler part of the day. Always thumb test before washing off.
How long before vehicles can use the area?
4 hours at 20°C. Foot traffic after 1 hour.
How much water do I add?
3.4 litres per 20KG tub — not the 4.25L used by other Flowpoint grades. Critical: wrong ratio affects finish and strength.
How do I know when to wash off?
Thumb test — joint feels firm, no bleed. Keep slabs damp with a light mist. Washing too early is the most common mistake on Flowpoint Fine.
Can it be used on granite setts?
Yes — cleaner, more defined finish than aggregate grades. Coverage approx. 1.5–2m² per tub on setts.
Can it be used on black limestone?
With a temporary pre-sealer (e.g. Tile Rite Patio Prep), yes. Without one, oxidisation can occur. Call us if unsure.
Is it permeable?
No — non-permeable cementitious grout. Must be applied on a solid, non-permeable bed.
Can it be used in the rain?
Yes — light rain is fine. Clear standing water from joints first.
Do I need to pre-seal before grouting?
With a pre-sealer: apply in advance, skip the water pre-soak.
Without a sealer: wet paving thoroughly, remove all standing water. Damp, not waterlogged.
What's the shelf life?
8 months from manufacture (printed on tub), stored sealed in cool, dry, frost-free conditions between 5°C and 30°C.
How much do I need per m²?
Approx. 11–12m² per tub (natural stone); 30–40m² (large-format porcelain, 3mm joints); 1.5–2m² (granite setts). Use the calculator on the single tub page for a precise figure.
Why is Flowpoint Fine in a tub, not a bag?
The 20KG tub format is specific to Flowpoint Fine — all other grades come in 25KG bags. Supplied as a bag inside the tub — check the inner bag colour matches the lid before use.

| Surface finish | Textured | Smooth | Super smooth / tile-like |

| Water ratio | 4.25L per 25kg | 4.25L per 25kg | 3.4L per 20kg |
| Best for | General paving, granite setts | Porcelain, narrow joints | Porcelain, smooth stone, inside-outside |
Flowpoint Grades & Colours — Which One Do You Need?

How to Apply — Quick Reference
Important: always use 3.4L per 20KG, not the Standard grade ratio of 4.25L.
- Clear joints of debris. Pre-soak paving and remove all standing water (leaf blower is ideal) — or apply a temporary pre-sealer and skip the pre-soak.
- Add 3.4L water to bucket, gradually add powder, mix 3–5 minutes with paddle mixer until smooth.
- Mix only what you can apply in approx. 4 minutes. Never store mixed mortar or add extra water.
- Pour over paving, squeegee into joints with a long-handled neoprene squeegee. Keep surface damp throughout.
- Thumb test to confirm joints are firm before washing off. Never wash too early.
- Clean down with brush and copious clean water. No mortar to remain on surface.
