Mixing and applying Flowpoint Fine Natural Grey 25kg
Use 4.25 litres of clean water for one full 25kg bag. The separate 20kg tub takes 3.4 litres, so double-check which pack you have before you mix. Follow the current instructions on your bag.
- Get set up first. Check that the paving is firmly bedded and the joints are clean, 2–50mm wide and at least 20mm deep. Clear loose debris and bedding mortar. Have your mixer, squeegee, water and clean-down tools ready; don’t let grout or wash water run into drains.
- Prepare the slabs. For the standard method, wet the paving and joints thoroughly, then remove standing water. You want the surface damp, not puddled, and can mist it gently as you work. If you’re using a compatible temporary pre-grout treatment instead, follow that treatment’s instructions, which may call for a dry surface before application. Trial a small area.
- Mix the bag. Measure 4.25 litres of clean water into a clean mixing vessel, gradually add the whole 25kg bag and mix with a suitable paddle or forced-action mixer for approximately 3–5 minutes. Aim for a smooth, pourable consistency rather like cake batter: fluid enough to flow into the joints, not watery. Make sure no dry powder remains. Workability is around 5–15 minutes, depending on temperature, so only mix what you can use promptly. Do not add extra water or remix grout that is beginning to set.
- Fill the joints. Pour the grout onto the paving and work it into the joints with a neoprene squeegee and pole bundle. Work methodically, top up any joints that settle and remove as much excess from the slab face as you can.
- Hold your nerve at wash-off. Don’t wash just because the grout on the slab face looks dry. Check the grout in the joint with a light thumb test: it should feel firm before clean-down. If it still bleeds from the joint, it’s too soon. Keep the slab face damp where the standard method calls for it, then clean thoroughly within the product’s stated window. Never leave residue to harden on the paving.
Weather matters. Warm weather and direct sun can shorten the time you have, so work in smaller areas and watch the joint closely. Cold weather can delay setting; do not assume the 20°C traffic timings apply unchanged. Avoid frost and unsuitable weather, and use the bag’s temperature and wash-off guidance rather than changing the water ratio. Initial set is approximately 30 minutes at 20°C; allow approximately one hour for light foot traffic and four hours for vehicles at 20°C where the complete installation is ready.
Wear gloves and eye protection: wet cement can burn skin. Wash your tools regularly and keep slurry out of drainage.

Where does it work with porcelain slabs and other paving?
Flowpoint Fine can be considered for suitable patios, driveways, pathways, town-centre pedestrian areas and carriageways with compatible natural stone, concrete flags, porcelain tiles and clay pavers. The paving must be properly supported and the whole system designed for the expected use. Consider Pro-Prime for an appropriate bonding specification; for dark or porous stone, trial a compatible temporary pre-grout treatment to help with clean-down.
How to use it when laying porcelain slabs
Prepare clean joints at least 20mm deep. For the standard method, wet paving and joints and remove standing water; with a compatible temporary pre-grout treatment, follow its preparation instructions instead. Add one full 25kg bag to 4.25 litres of clean water, paddle-mix until smooth, pour and work the slurry into joints with a neoprene squeegee and pole bundle. Good timing matters when applying Flowpoint Fine. Gareth Wilson’s wash-off advice is especially useful when you’re applying it for the first time:
Gareth Wilson, hard landscaping expert and RHS award winner: “As with other Flowpoint grades, be patient and hold your nerve so you don't wash the product off too soon. Too many contractors start washing off when the product starts to dry on the slabs. You need to keep the slabs damp with a mist of water so it doesn't go off on them too soon. Always make sure Flowpoint Fine is set in the joint before washing it off. Keep your eye on the firmness of the joint — just with a little thumb test. Once firm, then begin washing off.”
Gareth Wilson: “Some landscapers are stuck in their ways and they don't like change. Their attitude is, 'I've been doing this for 20 years… Why should I change now?' And some are quite rightly scared when they consider pouring Flowpoint onto their slabs — at the end of the day, you are pouring a cementitious slurry directly onto the pavers. It goes against everything that you've been taught. But Flowpoint has been developed so it doesn't stick to the paving.
“In addition to its British Standard rating and the strength of the product, it's also the speed at which you can install it. If you're going to be on your hands and knees with a trowel and a three-to-one mortar mix, it will take you about five times as long to install, compared with using Flowpoint. Flowpoint is just so easy and quick to install that it makes you money. It's a well-priced product and, in my view, a landscaper's friend. Ultimately, it means less time on the job and more profit in your pocket.”

Gareth Wilson: “Some landscapers are stuck in their ways and they don't like change. Their attitude is, 'I've been doing this for 20 years… Why should I change now?' And some are quite rightly scared when they consider pouring Flowpoint onto their slabs — at the end of the day, you are pouring a cementitious slurry directly onto the pavers. It goes against everything that you've been taught. But Flowpoint has been developed so it doesn't stick to the paving.

Mixing and applying Flowpoint Fine Natural Grey 25kg
Use 4.25 litres of clean water for one full 25kg bag. The separate 20kg tub takes 3.4 litres, so double-check which pack you have before you mix. Follow the current instructions on your bag.
- Get set up first. Check that the paving is firmly bedded and the joints are clean, 2–50mm wide and at least 20mm deep. Clear loose debris and bedding mortar. Have your mixer, squeegee, water and clean-down tools ready; don’t let grout or wash water run into drains.
- Prepare the slabs. For the standard method, wet the paving and joints thoroughly, then remove standing water. You want the surface damp, not puddled, and can mist it gently as you work. If you’re using a compatible temporary pre-grout treatment instead, follow that treatment’s instructions, which may call for a dry surface before application. Trial a small area.
- Mix the bag. Measure 4.25 litres of clean water into a clean mixing vessel, gradually add the whole 25kg bag and mix with a suitable paddle or forced-action mixer for approximately 3–5 minutes. Aim for a smooth, pourable consistency rather like cake batter: fluid enough to flow into the joints, not watery. Make sure no dry powder remains. Workability is around 5–15 minutes, depending on temperature, so only mix what you can use promptly. Do not add extra water or remix grout that is beginning to set.
- Fill the joints. Pour the grout onto the paving and work it into the joints with a neoprene squeegee and pole bundle. Work methodically, top up any joints that settle and remove as much excess from the slab face as you can.
- Hold your nerve at wash-off. Don’t wash just because the grout on the slab face looks dry. Check the grout in the joint with a light thumb test: it should feel firm before clean-down. If it still bleeds from the joint, it’s too soon. Keep the slab face damp where the standard method calls for it, then clean thoroughly within the product’s stated window. Never leave residue to harden on the paving.
Weather matters. Warm weather and direct sun can shorten the time you have, so work in smaller areas and watch the joint closely. Cold weather can delay setting; do not assume the 20°C traffic timings apply unchanged. Avoid frost and unsuitable weather, and use the bag’s temperature and wash-off guidance rather than changing the water ratio. Initial set is approximately 30 minutes at 20°C; allow approximately one hour for light foot traffic and four hours for vehicles at 20°C where the complete installation is ready.
Wear gloves and eye protection: wet cement can burn skin. Wash your tools regularly and keep slurry out of drainage.

What does Natural Grey look like?
A soft buff-grey rather than a straight mid-grey. Screen colour and wet grout can be misleading, so try a sample if you’re matching existing paving.
How does Fine differ from Standard and Smooth?
Its no-visible-aggregate appearance and 2mm minimum joint width set it apart. See the comparison table above for pack and water details.
What if I want Limestone or Stone Grey?

Can it help create an inside-outside appearance?
Its fine joint can complement smooth paving beside an interior floor. Indoor and outdoor installations still need their own suitable specifications.
Can I use it with black limestone?
Yes, Flowpoint Fine can be used with black limestone. We recommend applying a compatible temporary pre-grout sealer first to help prevent the white marks associated with oxidation. Follow the sealer's instructions and test a small area before grouting.
How long will it last?
Durability depends on the full construction, loads and maintenance. We can't promise a lifespan for every patio.
Is it permeable?
Flowable describes how it is applied, not how a cured joint drains. Check the current bag guidance and the full bedding and drainage design.
Can I work in rain?
Some Flowpoint applications can tolerate light rain, but check the actual bag’s weather and temperature limits. Protect fresh work from heavy rain and frost.
Do I need a temporary pre-grout treatment?
It can help with clean-down on porous or textured slabs. Test it and follow its instructions: preparation may differ from the standard wetting method.
How long is the shelf life?
Eight months from the date of manufacture on the unopened bag when kept cool, dry and frost-free at 5–30°C. Heat and humidity can shorten it.
How many bags will I need?

Small orders are distributed via courier; larger orders via Pallet Network. Collection is available from our Tamworth depot by request (contact us first to arrange on 0330 122 1025).

Mixing and applying Flowpoint Fine Natural Grey 25kg
Use 4.25 litres of clean water for one full 25kg bag. The separate 20kg tub takes 3.4 litres, so double-check which pack you have before you mix. Follow the current instructions on your bag.
- Get set up first. Check that the paving is firmly bedded and the joints are clean, 2–50mm wide and at least 20mm deep. Clear loose debris and bedding mortar. Have your mixer, squeegee, water and clean-down tools ready; don’t let grout or wash water run into drains.
- Prepare the slabs. For the standard method, wet the paving and joints thoroughly, then remove standing water. You want the surface damp, not puddled, and can mist it gently as you work. If you’re using a compatible temporary pre-grout treatment instead, follow that treatment’s instructions, which may call for a dry surface before application. Trial a small area.
- Mix the bag. Measure 4.25 litres of clean water into a clean mixing vessel, gradually add the whole 25kg bag and mix with a suitable paddle or forced-action mixer for approximately 3–5 minutes. Aim for a smooth, pourable consistency rather like cake batter: fluid enough to flow into the joints, not watery. Make sure no dry powder remains. Workability is around 5–15 minutes, depending on temperature, so only mix what you can use promptly. Do not add extra water or remix grout that is beginning to set.
- Fill the joints. Pour the grout onto the paving and work it into the joints with a neoprene squeegee and pole bundle. Work methodically, top up any joints that settle and remove as much excess from the slab face as you can.
- Hold your nerve at wash-off. Don’t wash just because the grout on the slab face looks dry. Check the grout in the joint with a light thumb test: it should feel firm before clean-down. If it still bleeds from the joint, it’s too soon. Keep the slab face damp where the standard method calls for it, then clean thoroughly within the product’s stated window. Never leave residue to harden on the paving.
Weather matters. Warm weather and direct sun can shorten the time you have, so work in smaller areas and watch the joint closely. Cold weather can delay setting; do not assume the 20°C traffic timings apply unchanged. Avoid frost and unsuitable weather, and use the bag’s temperature and wash-off guidance rather than changing the water ratio. Initial set is approximately 30 minutes at 20°C; allow approximately one hour for light foot traffic and four hours for vehicles at 20°C where the complete installation is ready.
Wear gloves and eye protection: wet cement can burn skin. Wash your tools regularly and keep slurry out of drainage.
